Waiver draft is scheduled for Monday, September 19.

I'll have the draft thread and (current) order posted later this morning.

For some of the newer GMs on board, the waiver draft somewhat serves as a free agent priority draft. All unowned players (in BBKL) that won't be eligible for the 2023 entry draft are able to be selected in this draft.

The second round has picks for the non-playoff teams. Those picks can be traded like any other pick.

Once the waiver draft is complete, at noon the following day all teams will be able to make free agent claims on the balance of the player pool. Players must be signed to NHL contracts and the BBKL team involved must not be at or over 50 contracts. Teams can make only one free agent claim (signing) in a 24-hour period.

Getting excited...starting to see some season previews come out this week.

Our waiver draft starts Monday morning. At last count, we have 100 players that have an NHL contract that aren't currently on a BBKL roster. With 48 picks in the draft, there won't be a shortage of names available.

Players don't need nhl contracts to be available for this draft. They just need to be too old for the NHL draft (or have an NHL contract and be any young age)

My 20th pick is available for the best pick(s) offered... min return is a 2023 4th Rounder.

Yup, that's a good point. We've had it in the past where teams would draft the players they anticipated to be the top NCAA free agents before the signed.

I can remember Danny Dekeyser was selected in the waiver draft before he finished his NCAA career and eventually signed with the Red Wings. I picked Dryden McKay last year because he was entering his senior season.

Most of the time those potential college free agents are out of the entry draft age range.

Good luck.

Since Fantrax is an important resource in this draft, please make it a point to claim your selections as soon as possible.

Also, make sure you claim any remaining 2022 draftees. I'll do an audit of everyone's Fantrax rosters after the waiver draft is over.

Lee mentioned Jagr...this is a very Jagr-like situation. A productive player that left the NHL and later came back and is available in a draft like this. He's the definite wild card of the draft.

I'll be curious to see if a rebuilding team trades up to take him but is that just so they can later flip him for an equal or better pick?

Or if you're a contender...is he's worth giving up futures for a guy that might only play one more year? And what kind of player will he be this time around?

As I mentioned after the waiver draft is done, I'll assist in letting you guys know who you haven't claimed but you'll have to have them added to your Fantrax roster by roster submission or you'll lose their rights.

Should we be posting how many contracts we have? Isn't waiver draft the same as free agency where we can't select a contracted player if we are at or above 50 contracts already

Aka make contract drops so ur at least at 49 before being able to select

You can be over 50 contracts right now during this draft but you can't add a free agent after the draft if you're at or over 50 contracts.

You'd obviously have to be at 50 contracts at roster submission and you can't claim someone on waivers if you're at or over 50.

Seems wrong to me. Pretty sure we were allowed to be over 50 contracts, but couldnt draft a contracted player unless we were under 50?

I'm probably wrong. But to me that makes more sense.

I don't remember us having that rule during the waiver draft but we also loosened up the rules on when we were allowed to drop signed players. That seemed to be a point for gripes regarding roster submission.
