I'm going to need to cut cap, don't know how much because I have more FAs then ever. Some contracts I can estimate, but I have 8 free agents so my cap is really uncertain.
I have given away players at big disounts the last couple offseasons because of everyone thinking trading futures for actual good NHL players is somehow bad GMing and every prospect/pick is going to be a star type attitudes. Billy went from a bottom team to the playoff bubble adding Kadri and Hall for a couple 1sts that are looking like they won't even be top 10. Considering the risk of the prospect busting and the chance they will reach Hall/Kadri level of player it's pretty obvious Billy comes out ahead, but when trades went down he took a lot of hate. Curious to see who else might try and improve their team this year instead of stockpiling assets with diminishing returns.
Pavelski 6M - 18th ranked C 27G 54A, 104 hits, 69 blocks, 394 FOW, 41min SHTOI, 216SOG
Impact stats and a big reason I won again this year. 1M cheaper so I'd expect to get back similar value to what I paid if a team wants to add a win now piece.
Hyman 5.5M - 38th ranked W, fit right in with EDM showing his Toronto stats weren't an anomaly, 27G, 27A, 213SOG, 135min SHTOI in 76 games.
Marchessault 5M - 41st ranked W who continues to be a top offensive W, 30G, 36A, 251SOG
Petry 6.25M - 65th ranked D in only 68GP in what was a terrible season for him and his team. He was still just outside the top 60 top pair Dman range, came on strong after the coaching change playing like his old self where he was the 8th ranked D in BBKL last season. One of the most valuable D since he is an offensive Dman who still puts up huge periph stats.
Campbell ?M - After winning the Stanley Cup he might get a contract I can't afford and I'd move him for a cheaper goalie, but likely have to wait until the contract is signed before moving him.
MacKinnon 6.3M / Milller 5.25M - Would have to overpay for these guys, but if you want to really kickstart your franchise and build around a player these are your guys.
Miller just turned 29 and was the #1 skater in BBKL, was # 4 in 2020 so he has a track record of being one of the best players in BBKL and is on an amazing contract. 99pts with elite periphs this is a guy that you win with as evidenced by him being the best player on a championship team.
MacKinnon is a 26 year old superstar who was the 13th ranked C despite only playing 65 games and not PKing. 88pts in 65GP and 299SOG this player can win offensive stats on weeks he gets hot and he started playing more physical this season averaging over a hit a game for the first time in his career.
If you want to get a deal done then make an offer on a player, I don't want a bunch of what do you want for Hyman or what do you want for MacKinnon PMs. I want all your best players, prospects and picks, but you won't pay that so make a competitive offer and if it's close we can negotiate and if it's a pointless offer like 2nd for Pavelski then no need to waste each others time. The onus shouldn't be on me to figure out offers if you are interested. Something like my guy for cheaper inferior player + pick/prospect or for good prospect(s)/pick(s) is the framework I'm looking for, but cutting cap is the priority so downgrading to save a mil or two won't interest me much.
