question about ufa players

Say you have a player without a contract that is waiver eligible. Is he allowed to take a spot in your pressbox for the year or does he have to have a contract? I assume the latter...just want to know for sure.

I don't see why he couldn't sit in your pressbox if you wanted to avoid waivers later on when he does sign. And no, he's not waiver eligible, he can start the year in the minors but will have to clear when he signs if you want to bring him up.

Maybe ask your group of brains about the pressbox thing Kyle

Here is a question...Paul Kariya is a UFA, but is also hurt, can I keep him on my injury reserves for the season, or do I have to put him in the pressbox...

Anyone without a contract can be placed in their minor leagues until they sign, at which point a decision needs to be made. If you decide to put them into your starting lineup you get one free callup (no waivers), but he must pass to go to the minors, and must pass up or down after the first free callup.

Hypothetically, lets say Paul Kariya were signed. You could place him on your LTIR for the duration of the season, or until he returned from injury, if he returned.

I would like to add one more question mark to that Kareem. Does a player on LTIR count against the 60 man roster limit? and once that player is ready to return proper adjustments must be made to be under that limit? basically does the NHL allow a team to sign another player when they are at the 50 contracted limit but have players on LTIR?

LTIR players don't count against the cap, but they count against the 50 man contracted limit.
