relax, reload and grow up

this is how the BBKL community is looking like at the moment: a bunch of faggots jumping off the bridge.

I thought we were better than this. I still think we are. Don't prove me wrong, it's not time to quit.

We are in a mess, it's time to be constructive and use this to grow up as a league, leaving personal anger aside.
Most of it is generated by this same mess anyway.. people in stressful situations do mistakes and won't be willing to admit them for awhile, or forever. WHo cares, be bigger than that and think about the whole picture:
If this thing collapses, we all lose, as all of us invested a lot of time in this thing and it's very probable we will never be part of a better similar league in the future.

I'll add on this post later.. but this must be the starting point for everyone.

I see Kareem up at the top hesitating... clearly the cult leader who just talked everyone else into jumping ;)

I'm probably the sucker in read-shorts who suddenly realized what is happening and is now running mid-air, oh and I see Frank, the old lady standing on the safe side of the railing. Not because he didn't want to join in, but rather because he mis-understood the instructions :D

We don't need (or want) people to admit guilt, fault or mistakes, as a group we can move past it.

we need to leave anger and personal battles aside, but not moving past like nothing happened.
Shit's happening cause there are problems, and problems need to be addressed so that moving past this will mean taking steps forward.

supposing everyone is prepared to put personal issues away to be able to move on and make things work, i'll try to add my personal opinion. Sorry for this being longer than i wanted.

i read a lot of people wondering what the hell was wrong, everything was working so perfectly, why things could not go on the same way.. well, fact is, lately things were not going well enough at all.
It's not like Mike and Scott woke up some day and all of a sudden decided to be dictators and censors; let's forget for a moment if they reacted in the best possible way or not, and let's focus on why that happened.

we had never ending arguments (wasting time, creating anger and so on), people were taking sides against each other, the CC was delivering only partial resolutions that were soon contradicted by its own members..basically taking away its legitimacy.. we were already in a mess before Mike and Scott took over. And when there is a lack of power, someone has to take the charge to bring back some order. And the ones supposed to do it are the ones who created and worked most on this thing (not saying they were only Mike and Scott, i've not been here long enough to judge).
All of this because of a discussion over which site to use for positional eligibility. This means the league is exposed to troubles every time a new argument arises; this needs to change to save us from this shit to happen again soon.

I've never seen a competitive league with many people involved working for long through a real democracy.
This is the first thing that needs to be recognized by everyone and addressed imo. I know a perfectly working democracy would be the ideal thing, but let's get serious and be content with making things work smoothly enough in a less idealistic manner.
We need consistent leadership, i.e. a CC made of few guys that:
- deserve to be in the spot: have put effort in the league, have good credibility, have a level-head and think league-first
- are not supposed to be substituted, unless necessary (no more time, availability); hence no rotation scheduled. This means stability in direction, leadership and quality/experience of the personnel.
- release clear, specific and unique resolutions only after having voted/agreed on them.

The second thing that needs to change, perhaps even more importnat, is the attitude of the participants.
Discussing suggestions is one thing, trying to create sides and bend/break the league is another one.
Anyone who stays in the league (hopefully everyone) needs to recognize the leadership that will be chosen and have faith in it; it doesn't mean not being able to express opinions and suggestions anymore, it means leaving them at reasoned opinions.

The third thing is always keeping in mind two basic(imo) principles when discussing league matters (and this is for the regular GM on the forums as much as the members of the CC)
- rule changes that affect previous strategies need to be minimized and implemented only after a fair (wide) period of notice.
- the less subjectivity is involved in the application of the rules, the better.

whenever you forget (or underrate, or even dismiss) these principles, you're generating arguments, cause in this league many people care a lot; and that's only good for the league, not something to reproach.
The more you ignore those 2 principles, the more you're opening the door for anger, frustration and lack of commitment in other GMs..

there are some guys here that put A LOT of work into this league, those guys deserve the precedence.
Imo we just need to find 3 or 4 out of them who are supposed to comply with the other 2 requirements and who are still willing to work together (putting eventual anger aside).
