Blackberry users, need help!
Blackberry users, need help!
Have any of you figured out how to get Google maps to use the internal GPS and not the tower triangulation?
Re: Blackberry users, need help!
Get an iPhone.
Re: Blackberry users, need help!
I have an iPhone, but are you on Bell? Seems to be an issue there - http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/G ... 2dff&hl=en
Re: Blackberry users, need help!
Well I would like an Iphone but i wasn't going to pay 300 bucks and sign a 3 year contract when i could get a BB for free. Does everything i need to do. I would love an IPad though.
But back to topic, I have read most of these forums, I guess the best thing to do is Call Bell and ask them why they lock out access to GPS for third party apps like Google. Then they will answer they cant answer the question because it is not about there software...pricks...We are fucked over so hard in NA when it comes to cell phones.

I miss my English cell phone. Super cheap, free incoming, no contract, top up anywhere... those were the days
Re: Blackberry users, need help!
Does this mean I need to get a Droid now?
Re: Blackberry users, need help!
Bell and Telus lock it.mr. bruin wroteCOLONHave any of you figured out how to get Google maps to use the internal GPS and not the tower triangulation?
Possible options I can think of:
Install another carrier's OS - incredibly simple I do it quite often.
Unlock your phone - costs about $15 (no idea if that'll work or not, so I'm not sure)
What phone do you have?
Re: Blackberry users, need help!
Lol, i would love to but if you read above you sill see i do not have money(was 300 last season, now 100 i think) on a phone vs getting a free one. I find Blackberry messenger quite useful and free. It does everything i need it to do. If anything i'd get a touch for the novelty of it.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONBlackberries are for homosexuals, get an iPhone fag!
Thanks Neel for your help, you've helped me before with this stuff. I have a BB Curve 8530 running latest OS with Google maps v 4.4. I read some forum where people said you could open Google maps, go to settings and change network to not 1x(cant remember) cache some maps, then go turn off your network antenna, reopen google maps, then hit "my location". This apparently bypasses the network enforcement rules and enables G-maps to use the internal antenna. Then go and turn on your antenna and reopen maps, should work.
Sounds logical except it was for the older version 4.2 i think or earlier, so i cannot find where network settings would be...
If you got any suggestions im open, i just dont want to brick it..

Do you have blackberry maps installed? I've seen some rumours that once you install it GPS will work. Also what OS version is it (4 something or 5.0 +)mr. bruin wroteCOLON

Thats a video of the new blackberry torch, and I'm a huge blackberry fan because of blackberry messenger. I've been in several different countries and everywhere I go I'm able to talk to my friends/family around the world. Makes a huge difference to me.
