Banking on a risky player. But at the end of the day you were right all along, the potential for what Murray can bring to the table I don't have anywhere else in my future D-core. Which now in my opinion is stacked between Murray, Myers, DeAngelo, Reilly, Theodore, De Haan, Fowler, Tinordi and Pokka. Building from the D out.

Building from the D-core is how you win.

in the summer i'll be coming strong for Myers.

I like this for LA. I think with Bonino what you see is what you get, and Murray is young for a D-Man, but his stats dont jump out yet, and he is a risk. I feel like in 1-3 years Gaudreau could be a 5-10 scorer in the league, and if he is 23 and doing that he could be moved for something better. If Fraser wants to start moving pieces for D-Men now to build from the backend I suppose its understandable.

The way I see it after moving these two wingers today, I still have 7 serviceable NHL wingers with upside. One or both of Hudon and Armia should make the jump next year. Fabbri will also get a shot (I see him as a winger in STL). I have Virtanen in the minors and 4 1st round picks this year as well. So Depth on wing won't be an issue long term.

Gaudreau while a valuable scorer, did not fit my future teams stat outline. This move gets me a potential top pairing defenseman who projects to be an all around contributor, who is absolutely a risk, but its the only reason I'm getting him now.

And maybe most importantly I got something of value out of Stoll, which I still maintain that it is crazy that nobody recognized the contribution be brought to the table. But it gives me a 3rd center in his 20's to build around long term.

It wasn't my ideal return, but its another rebuild move that puts me in the direction I'm looking to go.

I just clicked trough my PM's. Unless I'm completely missing something you never made an offer on either of these players.

Murray is just way too risky to be paying such price for like van did. I just thought he cudve waited til murrays health was more secure

you are.

More importantly, in your reply you asked for Larkin+Buchnevich+Ekholm for Niederreiter, adding that "The price on Gaudreau would be considerably higher".

I made no mistery of that being enough for me to stop offering on those 2.

Then you trade Nino for Fabbri and a late 1st, and what's worse, you trade Gaudreau AND Stoll for a big risk like Murray and a younger version of Stoll.

I don't know, maybe the ransom I paid for EK let you believe I may pay something crazy again for lesser players.

I also upgraded about 15+ spots in the 2nd round which is definitely worth something to me.

Nino and a 2nd. But yea the price came down. But for me there isn't a gap between Fabbri and Larkin like you see it. Buchnevik is a boom or bust prospect, and Ekholm is a younger defenceman that doesn't do anything particularly well who will always be buried by depth in Nashville.

I know you have much higher opinions of these guys, and thats fine, I'm not trying to argue that. But we clearly have different player evaluations and it led us to being unable to reach a deal, so I don't see why this has to be anything more than that.

you can obviously do whatever pleases you, it just feels weird on this end when you deal away a guy like Gaudreau for about a third of what you just asked from me.

I don't think Buch and Ekholm are worth much, but do like this deal for Steve since Murray is a huge question mark. If he becomes a top pair guy with decent stats it will be fair.
