In the CC we are currently sorting out arranging payment for next year. Thanks to Mashley hosting it on his domain or however that works the bbklhockey.com is free, so our only costs is CBS. Which we expect to be $100. We currently operate on a voluntary payment option, however a more interesting option has been proposed. Mike is the league creator and acting treasurer, which means he gets to front the bill...LOL.

16 make playoffs = 20 bucks each = 320 **make your money back if you make playoffs
8 mak next round = another 10 bucks = 80
4 make next round = another 10 = 40
2 make finals = loser gets 20 = 20
Stanley cup winner additional 40

Prize fund = 500 bucks

first round exit - 20bucks
second round exit - 30bucks
third round exit - 40bucks
runner up = 60bucks
winner - 80bucks

I'd like to point out that this method really only works with complete or near complete participation.
Donating money or participating in the prize set-up does not protect you from removal should you accumulate multiple strikes, running a good fantasy keeper league is still our primary goal.

Part of the thought here is that it covers the cost of the league... encourages competitiveness, hell it might even be more realistic in terms of adding pressure to perform!

But I don't like this, teams haven't built their teams according to this. Now we have a bunch of teams with no hopes of making the playoffs with money now on the line. I know its not a huge amount, but it bring in so many issues I'd rather not deal with.
Say we have a shit GM and replace him but his team makes the playoffs does he come clamoring back for his money, but what if new guy made the moves to get his team there though? I don't know how to settle these issues.

I say Side bets for performance and no mandatory payments. Reason is simple, not everyone can pay, it shouldn't be mandatory and how do we boot someone who ends up being shit who has paid?
Make it fully voluntary, the lifers and the main guys I'm sure will pony up, but with that money you get no guarantees.

Side bets though I'd be down to make.

i'm not against money fantasy leagues per se, however..

- the main benefit of having money involved is to ensure better paarticipation in the league, keeping people more involved.. something that doesn't seem to be an issue in this league anyway.
- money and prizes may apply well to leagues where everyone starts with the same chances to succeed, something very far from what happens in this league.

but its not fair for the teams taking the long road to success.

I dislike letting Mike front the bill.However my current economic state is not ideal for offering to cover everyone on good faith. Personally I see nothing wrong with a membership fee... especially if 16 of the 30 teams get it back, remember this is a keeper league, and ideally we stick together for a longer period of time. Meaning the rebuilders would eventually be the guys in the playoffs, and hopefully the current playoff teams that fall out keep interest.... this is call encouraged by a little monetary incentive.

Personally I see nothing wrong with a membership fee... especially if 16 of the 30 teams get it back, remember this is a keeper league, and ideally we stick together for a longer period of time. Meaning the rebuilders would eventually be the guys in the playoffs, and hopefully the current playoff teams that fall out keep interest.... this is call encouraged by a little monetary incentive.

What's wrong with keeping the status quo? Contribute if you want but it's not necessary. Now that I'm not paying hosting fees I have no problem paying for all of CBS (not that it'll be an issue, a lot of people will contribute freely).

Some sort of a fee is fine...within reason of course. I want to win as much in a free league and I would want to win in a pay league...I've done both. It would definitely make more sense if we started the league that way instead of doing it now when some teams have decided to go on a rebuild plan and they have little chance of competing for the foreseeable future.

At the very least, I don't see the harm in each of us chipping in an even amount towards the upkeep of the league if it's necessary.

It should be put to a league-wide vote with a large majority agreeing to the terms. I don't think a 16/14 majority would cut it. I'd say something in the 25+ teams agreeing for it to pass.
