Matt Moulson has avoided salary arbitration with the New York Islanders, as Newsday reports that the club signed the restricted free agent forward to a one-year, $2.45 million contract.

Moulson, 26, scored 30 goals and 48 points in 82 games with the Islanders last season, his first full NHL campaign.

A former draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Moulson joined the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent in 2006 and spent most of his pro career with the Manchester Monarchs of the Amercian Hockey League.

Figures he would sign his deal, and avoid arbitration a day after I traded him...Nonetheless this was what I feared, a hefty raise and on a short term deal. I couldn't afford him and Stewie.

On the flip side, this deal all but ensures Chris Stewart gets at least 3 million dollars in arbitration...FML

the fact that this is a one year deal is awesome for me. It is way less risk because if he becomes a 20-20 this season he could likely sign for about the same money in a multi year deal. Which would make him valuable. If he has another 30g year tho he will get another raise next year which could backfire.

Ya man, I'm in the same boat with Fleischmann. 51 points in 69 games smells like a solid raise to me. I was hoping for one of these last minute deals but its not looking promising!

How the fuck did they convince him to avoid arbitration on a cheap one year deal...JESUS! I hope Stewart has the same agent, lol.
