MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONThe Paul Ranger signing is going to make it very difficult, if not impossible for Morgan Rielly to make the Leafs this season. It also makes the Leafs cap situation that much tighter, one would have to think that Liles is a goner now.
might be a good thing for Rielly long haul to spend more time in the minors. I'm a big believer in waiting till they are more than nhl ready if it is possible. Worked for Kadri
The problem is that Morgan Rielly is going to be going back to Moose Jaw where the game plan is to give it to Rielly and get out of the way. There isn't much for him to gain from that, and it could lead to him building some more bad habits. Moose Jaw has made it pretty clear that they aren't trading Rielly either.

With respect to Kadri, being demoted was good for his development because he got to hone his craft in the AHL and learn the defensive game under Dallas Eakins, had he stayed an additional year in London it would have stagnated his development in all likelihood.

Unless you dropped him, there is no reason I know of that he'd be a free agent and eligible for waiver draft.

So what is the point of roster submission?

So that you can look through everybody's roster and find a loophole to draft a stud in the waiver draft that may or may not have been accidentally excluded.

Sweet, I'm going to pick up players so that I have 95 and then not include the extra 5 during roster submission. Yay loopholes!

There is also the note from Mik:

"ALL your players need to appear in the roster you submit to keep their rights."

I'm with Lee, the rules are very clear about this, and if bcool was over the roster limit as well he is in clear violation of the rules.

I deleted that, it was 78 last year, not 70.

I don't see how, the roster submission thread clearly states that players must be submitted to retain their rights. I legally drafted Damon Severson this year because he was not included in roster submission.

I didn't know about the Severson case, I suppose if there is precedent... Still, it seems really harsh, thankfully this isn't up to me.

gotta agree with lee. there's no room for cherry picking when and when not to apply rules here.

I still don't see the rule that says if they are on the teams CBS page and spreadsheet but not in roster submission that they become waiver draft eligible.

I agree. clearly a mistake and in fact Bry instantly knew he owned him. I thought the rule was one of the two, roster submission or cbs? We have had this in the past and as long as they had him on one they were ok.

I don't think anyone would care if he didn't sign with the leafs..
