I still dislike boyle for refusing to answer the bell, especially when he so clearly deserved a real ass kicking... glad carkner made it clear this wasn't a fake demand of debt.

come talk to me when you beat us in a playoff series.

Off the top of my head, pre-lockout, didn't we knock you guys out something like 2 or 3 years in a row?

Can't remember that far back, you know when the Leafs could make the playoffs. Coincidentally I don't think they award anything getting knocked out in the 2nd round of the playoffs either, so not really sure what it is you are celebrating?

Sensfanjosh wroteCOLONYeah, I think if he let up once Boyle went down he wouldn't have got the suspension, but meh point got across. Konopka apparently got fined $2500 for verbal abuse of a Rangers player. No idea where that came from.
Was pregame, he was chirping a Ranger doing an interview.

If Weber gets suspended, is there as much chaos as we've seen since Day 1 of the playoffs? I'm not so sure.

I know many disagree with a 1 game Weber suspension, but I think it really set the tone of players seeing how far past the line they can go before the NHL would hand out suspensions.

Maybe he was just mocking...but same grab, similar motion, opposite side of the ice.

B Marchand is embarrassing...flopping all over the ice, I don't know how he doesn't get called for unsportsmanlike... diving, game misconduct, w/e... just no good for hockey.

The playoffs area great reminder of how important goaltending actually is. Lundqvist stood on his tonight.

And Niemi dropped the ball.... both ends of the spectrum are killer, something a team cannot really control or truly plan for.

Yeah exactly, and let's not even mention the Pitts - Philly series.

Not only a late hit to the head by Torres but it was charging as well..

at least 4 games for Torres IMO (repeat offender)

my only problem with the torres hit is that he left his feet. didn't think it was late at all. elbows were low.

it was a missed charging call no doubt, but if hossa doesn't get taken off on a stretcher, then we're not talking suspension imo.

Although I think how bad the hit was in being blown out of proportion due to injury, it is definitely late, and hight, and off the feet. However he is going through the body, I wouldn't call it targeting the head either.

To me the Rome on Horton last year was worse. Now... Torres has some history... so, I look at it something like:

3 for the hit in isolation
+ at least 2 for re-offender
+ _____ depending on how hurt Hossa is.

Now imagine the NHL used Neel's rule where for the length of suspension, you dress down a man!!! shit that would deter this from happening!

Hard Black lines for suspension with LARGE suspensions. Please just try it. Gotta scare the crap out of players from ramming each other, currently it's a reward and strategic advantage to take out players: especially w/ plugs.

I like the idea of continually dressing them (team plays a skater down, AND that player does NOT get paid), but there has to be more because a 4th liner plus is pretty replaceable for the 8 mins he plays, especially if it's just for a single game suspension.

I reiterate, larger suspensions. People throw Cooke up as an example as it modifying behaviour (I want to see larger sample than just one player), but he also got hit in the bank account because you dont' get paid which means a bit more than a laughable 2'500 fine on a guy making Hundreds of thousands at bare minimum. That's roughly equivalent of $250 fine to someone making 50K/year vs. the rough bare minimum NHL salary....for Weber it was something like 17$ (i know it's not exactly correct but it's off by a few $)..for a 50K/yr person...

17 fucking dollars. OH THAT SHOWED HIM. That's nothing, regardless of what you think of the act (Nick), 17$ is laughably pointless to the player, that will not modify behaviour. Now to someone of a decent NHL salary (2 mil) a 2500 fine is ~$62.5 to a person making 50K.

That wouldn't change anyone's behaviour, especially if it's seen as doing what you have to do to succeed at your job.

But I doubt larger suspensions will happen, it's becoming increasingly clear that the NHL wants this stuff. They want fights, they want violence (excessive to some), they want the UFC/WWE effect (not a shot at the art of MMA, but perhaps a significant portion of their audience).

They saw how UFC brought in a sizable niche market and succeeded. I propose that their continual promotion of fights (despite risking their player's health over what should be necessary) is calculated to target a general audience to watching the games.

I hate it.

Scary stuff but think I gotta agree with Anton. Hit wasn't late, Hossa had just got rid of the puck watching it on slow motion does seem to give the impression that it was later than it was so no doubt that is where some people can see it as being late. Principle contact was shoulder and chest imo but its pretty tough to say exactly. Torres did leap though which is a big no no these days, and that is whats gonna hurt him. Repeat offender, jumping, hitting a star player, and causing a concussion are all ingredients for a suspension.
