It appears the Carolina Hurricanes could be parting ways with forward Ray Whitney July 1.

The Raleigh News & Observer reported the Hurricanes don’t intend to spend $50 million in payroll – and may spend as low as $44 million – and GM Jim Rutherford said it would be difficult to reach an agreement with Whitney, an unrestricted free agent, prior to the cutoff date.

Rutherford has most of his key players currently under contract, but with nearly $42 million committed to 15 players there’s not enough to re-sign Whitney and fill out the rest of the roster.

WTF...Why is Philly trading for the rights to Dan Hamhuis, with what money? And more importantly, where is he going to fit in? The Flyers D core already features Chris Pronger, Matt Carle, Braydon Coburn, and Kimmo Timonen...There must be a trade in the works.

Lots being said about TB. Like a Smith / Meszaros for Thomas/ Hunwick type deal. Or maybe a Malone for Thomas deal. Either way these teams are ideal partners and Thomas and St. Louis are best buds.
