Some Rangers talk....Dubinsky could be top line center where he was thought to be on LW of 2nd line.

NY Post

I guess Larry's thinking out loud, and it just shows you how weak the Rangers currently are up the middle.

Quote:
This leaves the Rangers with options so unappealing in the middle that one-time pivot Brandon Dubinsky, who has skated almost exclusively on the left during camp, is probably the best choice to open between Marian Gaborik and Alex Frolov as the team's No. 1 center.

Erik Christensen, capable if not dazzling in that role during the second half of last season, had a miserable camp. Rookie Derek Stepan clicked offensively in the preseason with Gaborik and Frolov but struggled defensively. Beyond that, it's difficult to imagine Tortorella giving Stepan the minutes he likes to heap on his first unit. It's even more difficult than that envisioning White being able to keep up with the wingers or handle those minutes.

Shifting Dubinsky could mean moving either Sean Avery or Ruslan Fedotenko up into the left-wing slot on the second line that features center Artem Anisimov and right wing Ryan Callahan, though Tortorella could instead choose to reunite Anisimov with Brandon Prust, whom the coach appears to trust without reservation.

NYI claims Grabner, TB claims Ritola, Eksberg clears.

NYR puts White and Keneddy on waivers. OTT puts Hale on waivers.

Guess no claim by Toronto or Edmonton for Grabner.

I believe VAN has traded O'Brien to NAS for Ryan Parent. Vancouver has Ryan Parent on waivers today.

Looks like Mr. Pessimistic was right that the Leafs wouldn't claim Grabner.

I was wrong, you were right...Dick

As for Ritola, thats a great claim by Tampa Bay, that kid is incredibly underrated, he has very good potential as a third liner. Big body, can skate, hit and has some skill around the net.

He's another one of those young players for the Wings that just didn't have a chair when the music stopped...you can throw him in the pile with Quincey and Leino. The Wings have their established veterans locked into spots in the lineup and the young players are left to fend for the scraps...ie--the 4th line. With guys like Eaves, Miller, Draper, Helm and Abdelkader...Ritola doesn't fit that mold of a 4th line energy guy. If there was a spot in the top 9, that's where he'd be better utilized. If Ritola was a blue chip guy...he wouldn't have been toiling away in Grand Rapids and he would've gotten a shot at top 6 or 9 spot. They don't give those jobs to young players, they have to earn it. Zetterberg and Datsyuk had to work their way up the lineup when they came in...they weren't hand their 1st or 2nd line roles. It's kind of a wasteful thing to waive these players but he's had a couple years to earn a job with the Wings and he couldn't quite cut it. Other teams will be benefit from the Wings having to scrap some talent that just couldn't cut it within their system.

That trade kills me on a couple guys...Jonas Andersson went from being a possible player on the Preds to being an AHL player with Manitoba and with the Preds adding another defenseman moves Alexander Sulzer further down the depth chart and he was put on the waivers to sent to Milwaukee (again).

Always thought Dubi would be more naturally suited towards center.
