Ya my 2023 1st is easily going to be more valuable than a top 10 pick this year.

Unrelated, my 2023 1st is available for a top 10 pick.

Lol.

Depending on how the draft unfolds I might end up offering you #26 for #32 2022

Remember to send a PM to the person who follows you in the draft order to let them know they are on the clock

This is the link to the Google sheets of the draft. The HTML pages are just the Google sheets embedded onto a page with a navigation banner. The HTML is handy so you can reference past drafts. I might be redoing that a bit when get to our lull in the middle of the summer.

Kemell falling to me at 7 kind of spooked me. I thought he'd be gone in the top 6. I liked him and Gauthier and a few other forwards in this range. Steve taking Savoie changed my focus to looking at the top wingers on my draft board. I knew I wouldn't get Wright or Cooley...had my fingers crossed for Savoie when I had 8 and eventually jumped up to 7.

To me, there's something about wanting to draft guys that do more than put up points unless they're offensive production is too good to pass up. When I'm further along in my rebuilding of my prospect pool, adding a sniper like Kemell would've been more appealing. I think Gauthier checked more boxes.

Both are good players, but I think Kemell has more of a 2 way game then you are giving him credit for. He is supposedly decent defensively and despite being small he apparently is physical.

"His eagerness to engage physically is a fun little feature to his game– he likes to hit and he’s considerably more effective than I expected when he does. He punches above his weight class...It’s rather impressive for a 176-pound, 17-year-old rookie who plays in a skill role to be this involved physically in a senior league"

I do agree that Gauthier is more likely to put up periphs and is the safer pick. Also isn't he playing C in the NCAA next season and projected to have a chance to stick there?

Kemell plays hard, which is something I like about his game other than his shot. He skates well and handles the puck well and gets his hands dirty. He’s not gonna crush short handed minutes, for sure, but he’s a good all-around player.

Jeeze draft started eh. Do we have any draft guides floating around out there? I got like 4-5 picks in first 3 rounds and haven’t done a lick of research lol.

I bought THN's guide this morning through Zinio. The Black Book appears to be coming out in the week or two. The U-18s went off without a hitch but we're only in the league finals in the CHL...still a couple weeks until the Memorial Cup.

The tricky thing with starting our draft around when the guides get released...we typically need a minimum of 3 weeks to get this done. I think guides will come in handy by the time we get into the 2nd or 3rd round. Hard to tell how quickly this draft will move along.

It feels like there was a pack of 5-6 guys after Wright that I figured would've been gone before my spot. Now we're onto another larger pack of guys and I think this next 5-10 picks can go in a lot of directions. I'm sitting at 24 and thinking do I wait and just take who falls to me or do I get aggressive and move up? I guess we'll see...

The other x-factor with my pick was Luke taking Jiricek so that removed any temptation of picking him at 7. He would've been an option. I have 4 picks in the top 54...I figure a defenseman made more sense at any of my other spots.

Wheeler and Pronman have published their final lists on The Athletic, for what they're worth. Just as a note, over the last five years Pronman has been the worst at predicting actual draft selections of any of the major publications. Like, by a good bit worst.

to be fair, draft rankings are not supposed to predict actual draft selections
