MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONThe parity is artificial due to three point games, if the NHL ceased to award teams for losing (like every other league in existence) the gap would be more considerable. It is also why looking at past standings proves absolutely nothing.
the three points affect the outlook of the standings, yep.
What i'm saying is that the parity is impressive and very evident even when you take that out.

heh, i'm quite sold on this perception of mine to not be interested enough in putting the time required to (maybe) persuade you as well..
I've no problems with you having an original position and questioning parity in the NHL, I just felt like stating my opinion as a fan of real competition like the one we have in today's NHL.

It wouldn't take that long to do it for a single season, the real work would be in doing it for every season post-lockout, and then comparing it to other sports.

I'm not going to look for it, but I believe every year on HF there is a poster that posts the standings if there were no 3pt games. I'm pretty sure, between the 2 conferences, there are usually only 1 max 2 teams that get swapped from out of the playoffs to in the playoffs. And the standings over does not change dramatically here, just a couple bumps here and there.
Now I'm sure some seasons have outliers that have a team jump from 8 to 4, or 5 to 10, but for the most part, the standings were very similar.

Andrei Kostitsyn signs with Chelyabinsk Traktor (reported, anyways, not official)
Appears to be a full year deal, not an NHL lockout out clause.

I suspect the KHL lockout policy only allows the termination of the khl contract (once the NHL resumes) for players who are under a signed NHL contract.

that's because of the lockout he basically had no other option, it's not like he wants to leave the NHL. Unfortunately for him and the other unsigned guys KHL probably means the whole year there, no matter if the NHL resumes play in 2012/2013.
If i remember correctly, your fears were about him leaving and staying there, which doesn't seem the case here (1 year deal apparently).
I blame Doan!

I think AK was KHL bound regardless. Wore out his welcome with two nhl clubs and carries a cancerous reputation. I dont know how much is true about his rep but after last years playoffs, it seems he has a zherdev type rep where no gm wants to touch him.
Good riddance and i hope he stays in the khl, I always disliked him as a player.

this is somehow reminding of your "Malkin = lazy ass" analysis lol
(obviously not comparing in any possible way the two players)
