For me, he's draftable because he is still eligible for the NHL draft and was 20 on December 31st. We shall see what they say.

It was even discussed by CC back in 2017
So can I draft Edmonds?

dave1959 wroteCOLON1. ENTRY DRAFT (June 1st each year, beginning at 10am EDST)

These are the updated rules currently in the CBA:

1-1 : Players who turn eighteen (18) years of age before the fifteenth of September and are no older than twenty (20) years of age by the thirty-first of December are eligible for selection.
looks like the CBA was never updated on this, we've been using the regulations announced at the top of the draft thread for many years now, with the intent of adhering more closely to the NHL rules (the rule you quoted above would instead cut short the eligibility life of prospects). The reason we didn't just copy and paste from the NHL CBA is that those rules were even more complicated.

However, I see now that with the red asterisk in those regulations I probably created a difference between our eligibility rules and the NHL ones. That was an example made to clarify and solve potential grey areas, but the NHL apparently considers the player needs to have played 1 season in N.A. at age 20 (or 18, or 19) not 1 game for him to lose his eligibility at 21 rather than at 22.

So my understanding is that if we stick with what we announced at the top of each draft thread, Edmonds can't be drafted in BBKL even if he is eligible in the NHL. The purpose of embracing that rule was however to make BBKL-un-owned players eligible for our draft if they are in the NHL.

This rule says otherwise:

Players who turn eighteen (18) years of age before the fifteenth of September and are no older than twenty (20) years of age by the thirty-first of December are eligible for selection.

He would have been 20 on the 31st day of December.
I think you're misreading this.

The 31st of December comment applies to the current draft year, so 2022. He'll be 21 this on 12/31/2022.

The reason Edmonds is eligible for the NHL draft is because he has not been drafted, and did not play a year in North America as an 18, 19 or 20 year old. He played as a 21 year old. So, he falls into a hole in the NHL CBA. Technically, the CBA says that all players over 18 are eligible UNLESS they meet 5 criteria to make them ineligible. Edmonds meets none of those criteria.

Hard to ignore the output and the BU commit helps his case too. My last pick in the 4th I was on Jellvik and switched to Johansson at the very last second.
