There may be a better chance of his extension being cheap given that the cap is going to be flat for a while, but they'll probably have to pay him well to keep him around or he could just go back to the KHL and get paid. Sounds like the plan is to sign his 2 year ELC now and burn one year immediately.

There is zero chance they get away with not bending to his demands bc he can just go back to Russia and be the highest paid player in the KHL. Kaprizov holds all the leverage in that relationship.

Yeah I think you're right on that, it's taken so much to get him to the NHL (and he's not even here yet), and they have a lot of money coming off the books after next season, I'd be shocked if they didn't back up the truck for him. The only way I could see them not doing it is if he bombs.

That's similar to how I feel. It's based on which guy you prefer. More seasoning with Kaprizov and you think his NHL days are right around the corner. We'll find out pretty quick how this deal could turn out.

Let's not forget that Arizona also has a pick at #10. It's a luxury to be able to trade out of spot and get a guy they really want rather than hoping you get something you like at the draft spot. And then take another shot with the 10th pick.

Didn't the KHL just vote to implement a real cheap salary cap? I imagine KK is going to make more money in the NHL even if he only becomes that 60 point winger with periphs. I'd wager that if he can play a regular role in tje NHL that he'll stay. I like the trade for ARI. Risky, but a very large potential payout. Have to take those swings sometimes.
