As someone who doesn't feel like they lowball teams I find threads and disagreements like this entertaining.

Not saying it's a terrible offer either, I think if it was a team with goalie depth that would be fair. I was looking at Mik's roster and it is so ridiculous he could overpay and lose like 5 deals and still have better assets than any team. I get why Thom made that comment and thanks for doing it. Also Steve is one of the best GMs because he loses the odd deal but is active and makes smart trades. You're more likely to make deals that are close when you are on the fence if you feel like you aren't lowballed to start with IMO.

You are a bit of a hoarder Mik.

Hoarders hang on to garbage and live in their own filth...Mik is one of those fisherman with 20 poles in the water and he catches his limit at every draft and he can wait for them to develop while he's got plenty of talent on his active roster.

The salary cap and waiver rules always seem to force him into a few trades in the summer.

I think people's issues with Mik are more about feeling entitled to better deals since he has so much rather than anything he does in trade talks where, in my experience, hes the same as every other GM

I’m good with Mik. I get way worse offers from other GMs regularly lol

He’s easy to hate on though because of all the assets and like a josh said, people expect him to just overpay because he can and not take a hit on depth lol

Any team with "too many assets" shouldn't be expected to drop their asking price and any team in need of assets shouldn't be expected to pay more.

It all comes down to reaching an acceptable deal being two or more parties. Our currency is players and picks and the value each pick and player is up to the individual team to decide. I think value is all relative to our biases towards the player or towards our goals as a team.

I'm sure any team would just assume not have to pay extra to acquire a player from another team and instead they can call up a waiver exempt NHLer to be an injury fill-in. It just happens that Mik has more of those players to call on than others.

I bet Mark would love to be able to call up Byram to play on his defense right now but he's not in the NHL. There's team right now wiht bad rosters but a lot of good prospects. However, those guys can't help you until their NHL clubs decide they're ready to play.

Sorry Mik - you mentioned just about everyone else being talked about in the trade proposal - looked like you waived the non-disclosure agreement to me. Was only fair that I disclosed the overall picture at that point.

You forget that to me GP is crucial, both this and next year. Yes, Guri replaces Perry GP and for quite some time, but I cannot run a Stalock/Hank combo for next year. Too much risk - not even Matthew would do that. The trade then becomes Perry + Georgiev + new goalie next year for Guri and Stalock. Already the straight up value was not good for me, but taking everything into consideration, it becomes even worse.

Rookie goalies and goalie prospects are probably the hardest players to evaluate. If there was ever an asset to "hoard"...it's goalies. You can use them as currency or hang onto a bunch of them and hope one becomes an NHL starter.

I understand Mik's interest in Georgiev since he's got Shesterkin. If I'm Mark, hang onto Georgiev regardless of what's offered...good or bad. You don't really know who is the primary guy in New York going forward. King Henrik has one more year (at best). You need to cover your bases beyond this year.

The feel good story of Lunqvist playing one more year as a Ranger is great and all, but as a hockey club does trading a 24 yo capable goalie to accommodate a feel good story make sense? Maybe it does, but I think it's closer to a coin flip then a sure thing that Georgiev is moved.

At that point, they can just go an get a new vet back-up or perhaps another one of their young goalies will be knocking on the door and they can platoon. Who knows. I'd bet Georgiev is moved.

Hard to trade Hank`s 8.5 or whatever it is... cuz he`s not all that great anymore. Enough for a backup role, but certainly not at his price tag, or even 50% retained.
