LOL @ "semin is a 2nd line player on a winning team." thats absolutely laughable.

Semin is a 1st liner. You guys talk about him not being that great when hes NOT trying. he put up 79 points last year while not trying. when the 2008-2009 season started, semin was leading the nhl in points about 20 games in (he had over 30 at that point. closest guy was malkin around 24). then he got injured.

neel is arguing completely the wrong point. no one here is arguing that semin isnt an injury risk. thats the most obvious fact int he world. but when he plays, EVEN WHEN HE IS NOT TRYING, he is downright deadly. kareem already mentioned how good he is without the puck and shep already pointed out his playoff stats. this "not showing up" argument is pure garbage. showing up means putting up points. the stats DEFINITELY tell the story there.

now its possible 5 years from now because of semins injury risk he may not be as good. but when you talk about the most skilled players in the game, semin is in the conversation. not only that, he is downright exciting to watch.

What I'm arguing is not his rate of production or his stats. Its that a true top line forward is expected to produce consistently, regardless of injury or anything else. If you factor in injuries and the rest, Semin doesn't do that. Hes a fantastic secondary scoring threat, but I wouldn't think a contending team would be relying on their offense to primarily come from his stick.

By that line of reasoning Joe Thornton isn't a real top line player.

Semin doesn't produce when he doesn't try LOL.

He tries inconsistently, at times looking dominant, at times costing his team badly. When it suits him, and hockey is fun he scores lots, when the game gets tougher and checking tighter he disappears. Being good away from the puck is an issue of reliability, and thats what players like Kovy, Semin, Malkin, Kessel, Spezza, etc lack... its not the ability to play w/o the puck, its the will and effort to do it EVERY shift.

Brutal reference to Jumbo, btw. Watching either play shows a notably different story.

I didn't compare the two..What I said was too compare Semin to a second liner (due to poor production in big games) would be the equivalent on calling big Joe a second liner, and yes I realize jumbo does other things, but we are talking points only here.

I didn't say big games. I said consistently, through all games. That includes time missed due to injury because the team is still playing games. All I'm saying if I built a team I doubt it'd be a contender if I was relying on Semin as my primary means of offense.

Thats fine, but don't say he isn't a legit 1st liner, because if he isn't, than there are only about 4/5 legit first lines in th NHL, which obv isnt the case.

He just wouldn't be a first liner on a team thats a contender, unless of course the team has plenty of talent to supplement. But either way fair enough. Funny 2 pages talking about semin who wasn't even involved in the deal.

neel a top line player is a player who can play 17 + minutes a game, produce at a ppg page and can compete against the best players in the world. semin is a 1st line player on of of the best teams in the nhl right now (you're going to say, but hes on line 2 shiv. no im talking about line 1 minutes. and the semin - backstrom - ovechkin line is used in all pressure situations). and he was healthy all of last season and put up 84 points. he shows up in the playoffs for the caps every time. your only argument is injury prone. but would you EVER say that gaborik is a 2nd line player? they are both world class wingers. its about health and thats not the debate here at all. we are talking abotu semins skill level. and he has the skill level to be line 1 on EVERY TEAM in the NHL.

BOS - Lucic - Savard - Semin
BUF - lol not a doubt
OTT - Semin - Spezza - Alfy
TOR - again given
MTL - Cam - Plek - Semin

NJD - okay this is one team where hed be line 2. btu he would get line 1 minutes EVEN WITH kovy and parise on the wings. my guess is: line 1 Parise - Zajac - Semin. Line 2 Kovy - Arnott - Langenbrunner. Mix and match but semin gets line 1 minutes
PHI - Semin - Richards - Giroux. Mix and match all you want semin would be a line 1 winger.
PIT - i heard Crosby needed a winger?
NYR - Him and gabby would get the most minutes. torts may split them.
NYI - Semin - Tavares - X

WSH - Ovechkin - Backstrom - Semin. Wait thats already a line. PP1 Unit too isnt it?
ATL - Semin - Antropov lol
CAR - Semin - Staal - Ruutu
TBL - Semin - Stamkos - St. Louis OR Semin - Lecavalier - Gagne?
FLA - Semin - Weiss - Booth

DET - Semin - Datsyuk - Franzen. Hudler - Zetterberg - X
CLB - Nash and Semin with top minutes
CHI - Semin - Toews - Kane. Wow.
NSH - lol
STL - Semin - Backes - Oshie

ANA - Semin - Getzlaf - Perry? Maybe they put him line 2 to spread out talent put Ryan line 1 but Semin STILL gets Line 1 minutes
DAL - Semin - Richards - Eriksson OR Semin - Ribeiro - Morrow
LAK - Semin - Kopitar - Brown
PHX - Semin would get the most icetime. maybe doan or wolski but yeah
SJS - Semin - Thornton Heatley. Marleau - Pavelski - Setoguchi. holyfuck.

Vancouver - Burrows - Sedin - Sedin. Semin - Kesler - Raymond. Semin still gets line 1 minutes just like Kesler.
Calgary - Semin - X - Iginla
Edmonton - most minutes for sure. we'll see what happens with hall and msp.
Minnesota - Semin - Koivu - Havlat
Colorado - Semin - Stastny - Duchene PP1 Unit?
