Arian wroteCOLONlol the vermette deal was fair.. what people forget is that it's real life and not bbkl. there's something called free agency.
Vermette has two or three years left on his deal.
he's still a very replaceable player and it's not like columbus is going anywhere.
He's still young and can contribute offensively. Only 2 seasons removed from 65 points.
That's two seasons already... And two seasons is not short in real time either. Whether they (CLB) are right or wrong about their prospective growth/ceiling opinion on Vermette, they've clearly given up, and I don't blame them. They have their 1st rd pick this year and who they draft with it - that's huge.

Well, I guess we'll see how he does on PHX.

He's physical enough, great on the PK and great on the dot.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that CBJ will not draft a Russian.

Kinda like the Philadelphia Flyers of the BBKL.

He's only scored at that clip once and while he's young at 29, he is what he is. He's normally between 40-50 points and good at pk. His offensive game is very overrated and he is a very replaceable player.

When your team is as bad as the CBJ, with an awful Brassard and Carter on the block. Who are your centres going to be?

it doesn't matter? CBJ is going NOWHERE and Vermette has been awful for them this year. They've given up on their core players so they're rebuilding and can easily fill holes with mediocre veterans through free agency in the off-season. It isn't a team that's winning anytime soon.

I don't care how you twist it, when players worse than Vermette that are upcoming UFAs get more than this, I consider it a terrible trade.

The Leafs are in on Rick Nash, Burke all but confirmed it in his radio interview a moment ago. To elaborate for those that didn't hear the interview, Burke said the following (paraphrased):

Reporter: Have you made a firm offer for Rick Nash

Brian Burke: No we have not made a firm offer for Rick Nash, however it would be tampering to say if If did, and I would be in trouble with the league if I said yes. What I can do is refute a rumor, and so to answer your question, no we have not made a firm offer for Rick Nash.

It doesn't take a genius to read between the lines here...

we are also obviously getting a goaltending shakeup. burke harped on our goaltending like 4 different times in that interview, not even provoked by a question.

Not necessarily, he explicitly stated that he has not yet made an inquiry on the goaltending market, and doesn't know how much or what it will cost to get a goaltender now. It is very likely that nothing makes sense for the Leafs on the goalie market, and that is assuming an upgrade is even available.

I think he said he's going to go after Nabokov? Or kick the tires.. or something?

Maybe I mis-heard.

Nabokov has been offered a one year and a two year contract by the NYI organization

May be going after a goalie now. Not surprised, but curious to know whats out there at a reasonable price, can't imagine a lot is.

"We haven't been dabbling in that market...but it's something we have to explore and find out what the price tags are...if we are looking for goaltender, it'd be someone who would help us right now"

he's obviously looking to bring someone in.

Nabokov for Gustavsson + 3rd

That's my guess.

Nabakov + 2nd for Reimer. And no, I don't think it's going to happen.
