I'm surprised to see more or these longer term low cap deals. Obviously some guys know they'll never be a top 6 player so getting 22 mil is a good deal.

Interesting they only give him 7 years when they can re-sign for 8. Have to imagine he could've gotten more than $3.15 million AAV on the open market but would've be curious to see if teams wanted to go a full 7 years on him.

Coleman and Goodrow both got 6 years as UFAs last year and Gourde was in the middle of a 6 year deal when the Kraken got him in the expansion draft.

He's an interesting choice to sign for that many years when the Lightning to have too many guys signed beyond '23-24. Next summer will be another interesting offseason with Sergachev and Cernak due new deals plus Cirelli and Colton up front. Stamkos only has two more years on his deal and Hedman is up in 3 years.

Philadelphia signed 25 year old goalie Ivan Fedotov to a 1 year ELC last month.

Today, Fedotov has been detained by Russian authorities as a draft evader.

I believe military age for Russia is 18-27

Gotta assume this could actually tank where teams take Russian prospects, if it's expected this thing with Russia lasts a few years.

Personally hoping dronov doesn't get detained as he was coming over too.

They've tried so hard to not go full Blackhawks where they had push guys off the boat like Byfuglien and Bolland. The cap is the restrictor plate to a dynasty. I give the Ligntning credit that they got closer to a 3-peat than the Wings. Seems much harder now to get there than pre-lockout.

Having Hedman, McDonagh and Sergachev all on the right side of their defense was a pretty crazy luxury.

"Upon hearing about the arrest of Ivan Fedotov, Kirill Kaprizov reportedly immediately returned to the United States. His name is linked to fraudulent military IDs being sold to players, including Fedotov, and Kaprizov is now wanted in Russia, per Sport-Express."

Matt Murray blocks trade to the Sabres.

Per Darren Dreger:

The deal between Ottawa and Buffalo would have included the Sens retaining salary and Buffalo flipping the 16th pick for the 7th. I’m also told Buffalo would have received an additional asset for acquiring Murray…had he agreed to waive.
