NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
If Tyson Barrie leaves Edmonton, the value of duncan Keith in our league just jumped a good amount. Thankfully owned by a rebuilding team.

Also gotta wonder if Chicago is opening up cap room to acquire a good young dman like Seth Jones...and now they have his younger brother too.

I just saw Pagnotta bring up Seth Jones...that's an interesting angle on this deal.

No chance edmonton keeps Barrie with Keith’s cap hit in full.
Great move for CHI. If Caleb helps land Seth that’s massive. Otherwise to also get a 3rd back is very good return for the cap space they opened up. Even if it’s not Seth Jones, lots of people will want to play in Chicago. Wonder what goalie they are gonna go after? MAF to the hawks?

You don't think Lank is the number 1 guy in Chitown next season?Handsome&FairMike wroteCOLONNo chance edmonton keeps Barrie with Keith’s cap hit in full.

Not if the plan is to be competitive.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Fleury has shown that he's okay to tandem. No better goalie to learn from these days. He's done it all. Not to mention Lank came out of nowhere, so maybe they want a tad bit of insurance.DApolloS wroteCOLONYou don't think Lank is the number 1 guy in Chitown next season?Handsome&FairMike wroteCOLONNo chance edmonton keeps Barrie with Keith’s cap hit in full.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Most teams need a good tandem unless you have a guy like Vasilevskiy or Hellebuyck that shoulder a lot of the work. A goalie of Fleury's age, you'll want to preserve him during the regular season so you need a solid 1B to pair with him eat up some of those starts.
Lankinen is the #1 by default since Subban wasn't very good and they didn't seem to give Delia much of a look. He won the job with his play early on but the last half of the season wasn't great. The Hawks didn't have another goalie to take the crease from him. A veteran to pair with Lankinen would be a smart move...not necessarily Fleury.
At worst, Lankinen is a good 1B option. I guess we can see what he can look like with a Blackhawks lineup that includes Toews along with an improve defense. The Hawks tied with the Sabres for allowing the most shots per game. That definitely has to improve.

Michael Russo is reporting the Wild are buying Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
I guess that's one way to solve their defense conundrum.

is it me or this doesn't sound too good for Kaprizov's next cap hit? :pShoalzie wroteCOLONMichael Russo is reporting the Wild are buying Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.

Rough month for Caspers goalies. Rask out until at least January due to off season hip surgery too.dave1959 wroteCOLONPekke Rinne retiring

Erik Johnson waives his NMC. Doubt he gets traded. This is probably just to create space for Colorado to protect makar/toews/girard.

Yeah, there's a window for players with NMC to decide if they will waive them if their team requests it for the expansion draft. I saw Friedman mention that this morning.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make. I can remember the initial shock of that day when the Wild signed Suter and Parise over the Red Wings but considering where the Wings are at now, those two would've been boat anchors and would've hindered a rebuild.
They're finally getting out of Zetterberg's deal and Franzen's wrapped up last year...plus they've got 5 years paying for Abdelkader's buy out. Yzerman has been more disciplined in handing out term to players compared to Holland. They already got out of Mantha's new deal.
The CBA limiting term is basically saving GMs from themselves. The flat cap is also a nice restrictor plate on spending sprees in free agency. You identify your core and you lock them up at a reasonable cap number. The best route to improve your lineup is probably trades over free agency.
What's the last significant UFA signing that put a team over the top? Hossa when he joined the Blackhawks? More times than not those are deals that look good for a couple years but you are punished for them later.
