I wonder if Yzerman would have made the same/similar moves to get them over the hump.
Sometimes you are just good at rebuilding and not so much about winning. Also, half the good roster was there when he took over, wasn't it? Stamkos, Kucherov and Hedman?

I did not know that this existed. Pretty cool, thanks chief!

Shoalzie wroteCOLONStamkos was 2008 and Hedman was 2009. Yzerman started in Tampa in May 2010...can't believe it was a decade ago. His first draft pick was Brett Connolly...he's still in the league but wasn't a good pick for the Lightning. He got Kucherov and Palat in 2011 and Vasilevsky in 2012. Point was a 3rd rounder in 2014.
I think he's a hit/miss drafter. I really hope that Seider last year was a hit and I can see the pick at #4 tonight can go either way.
Interesting that he did not hit on many dmen... I wonder if that's sort of the model that the Leafs are trying to follow. Draft lots of skilled forwards, maybe get a young elite goalie (Askarov??) and then trade to round out the dcore. Just missing that elite dman (Piets) and their team would not be dissimilar to the tampa model of previous years. Just need that sandpaper now.

Yeah, I noticed his track record with defense wasn't great. Again, that's why the Seider pick is important.
I'd be surprised if it's anyone outside of Drysdale, Rossi or Perfetti at 4. It's a franchise that needs players everywhere so I wouldn't any position at a premium. Pick the best player and I'll be fine with it.
You can always find veterans to hold down roster spots while you want to find those players in the draft or they develop. Guys like Nemeth and Gagner are the types of veteran players that can fill a need while they take their lumps and they'll be pick high in the lottery for a couple/three more years I imagine.

Meanwhile, I am loving the trend of teams being forced to do buyouts vs being able to dump players. Very likely because of Covid, but I would not be surprised if this trend does not continue for at least the flat cap years.

Domi a year off a 70+ point season and you gotta add to get Anderson. Makes me think that domi maybe asking for the moon in contract negotiations.

Yup. I had similar discussion with someone else. The floor for any decent young F unfortunately starts at the blunder that is the Colin White deal. I have to imagine Domi is asking for closer to 6-7 which is a little rich.
I don't think I'd give him the Konecny deal, but there isn't much wiggle room between that and White.

Murray traded to Ottawa...didn't see that coming but they need a goalie. Or are they just going to flip him?

Goalies for sale. Jarry or Murray. Happy to move either.

Our goalie market is going to be fascinating this fall with all the movement going on. Previous pairings are being split up...some teams now have potentially 2 starters.

Minnesota must really like the players at 37 and 70.
