NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Jake Allen and a 7th to montreal
3rd + 7th to st louis
That's a lot of money spent on goaltending for Montreal (over 14m) and that makes some cap room for pietrangelo in stl.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Weird trade...Blues get cap room but is Binnington a sure thing going forward? I imagine the Habs will flip Allen for the right price...too expensive for a backup.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Probably only the first of several goaltenders getting moved this off-season
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Freddi Andersen to Buffalo book it
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Right price? It's not like they got a discount on Allen given the goalie market in recent years. Seems more like a temporary solution at their #2 goalie to give Primeau more seasoning.Shoalzie wroteCOLONWeird trade...Blues get cap room but is Binnington a sure thing going forward? Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Allen has 1 year on his contract. They paid a 3rd for a 4.3m dollar backup goalie who will play 25 games (if it's a full season) and if it isn't a full season maybe 10-15 games. To a team desperate to cut cap so they can sign pietrangelo. Seems like stl wins this deal, to me. Hopefully Mtl can sign Allen to a reasonable aav extension.
Not saying world is over - it's a 3rd, who cares. Probably will be a useless pick anyway.

Mark Barberio signs for 3 yrs in Switzerland
a little throwback to see how BBKL had lofty expectations for him back in the day:

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
My takeaway was it was apparently easier to cut cap then to add and GMs had to pay to add cap Haha how the times have changedkyuss wroteCOLONMark Barberio signs for 3 yrs in Switzerland

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I just have to chuckle at all the GMs of the past in that thread.
Semi-related...I wonder about some of these fringe NHLers that could normally fall back on signing an AHL deal if they can't find an NHL gig. I wonder how many of those guys will just flock to Europe for the year with the status of leagues over here in doubt.
A guy like Barberio being 30 doesn't mean he can't play pro hockey anymore but his chances of being a regular in the NHL seem to be dwindling by the day. Would you rather be a 8th or 9th defenseman in an organization and spend a lot of time in the press box or down in the AHL or just go to Europe prolong your career there?

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
NHL pressbox > Europe > AHL
NHL pressbox you get paid big money to just practice and get to live a luxurious life with the best facilities.
Europe you probably get paid more than AHL and the travel isn't as extensive.

Covid pressbox pays so that when u retire at 35 you can afford the European lifestyle for the rest of your life.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONEurope lifestyle >> Covid pressbox with no fansMatthew wroteCOLONNHL pressbox > Europe > AHL

Why wait to retire when you can play in Europe and tour when you are off? Saves on flights to and from - it's the eco-friendly way to travel and play hockey.Matthew wroteCOLONCovid pressbox pays so that when u retire at 35 you can afford the European lifestyle for the rest of your life.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONEurope lifestyle >> Covid pressbox with no fansMatthew wroteCOLONNHL pressbox > Europe > AHL

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Cuz Europe pays significantly less.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Perhaps, but it sure beats the back and forth from AHL to NHL. If I were a fringe player and were offered a FT role on a European club, I'd take it for the experience.Matthew wroteCOLONCuz Europe pays significantly less.

And give up 100s of thousands a year when you may only have 5 years to earn money in your career?
ANAHEIM DUCKS | FANTRAX |
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Depends on how certain I am with regards to making those hundreds of thousands, and how many $$ I've already made. The difference between an AHL salary and a good Euro salary isn't that much.Matthew wroteCOLONAnd give up 100s of thousands a year when you may only have 5 years to earn money in your career?
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I'd prefer euro to AHL too. I said a pressbox NHL'er tho.Da_Hawks wroteCOLONDepends on how certain I am with regards to making those hundreds of thousands, and how many $$ I've already made. Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Yeah got sidetracked a tad. My point was that not all pressbox guys are FT there, lots bounce up and down. I'd avoid that if it likely wasn't going to be a detriment to my career.Matthew wroteCOLONI'd prefer euro to AHL too.
