I don't think I'd appreciate a player's journey like Cave if not for being in leagues like this where you learn so much about so many different players. And it's cool to watch their assent into becoming a pro.
I drafted him 151st overall in the '13 draft...first pick of the 6th round. Considering I didn't have a pick until the 4th round...I ended up grabbing guys like Jake Guentzel, Cal Petersen, Tyler Motte, Ryan Graves along with Cave.
Cave goes undrafted like many of my later round picks and you think about those guys and wonder how long do you keep them before give up and drop them?
He has two solid years in Swift Current and was their captain so I figured why not see if he goes pro or not. He gets an ELC with the Bruins but spends most of his time in Providence. Modest AHL numbers and gets a brief crack in the NHL. Brief but still cool to see guys like that work their way to playing in the NHL.

Perunovich is another one of those undersized but skilled defensemen to move through the NCAA ranks. I always had an eye on him since he partnered with Nick Wolff for the latter part of his career at Duluth. Wolff was his Diesel to Perunovich's Shawn Michaels. I'll be curious to see how much Perunovich put Wolff on the map or can Wolff actually be a solid stay-at-home defender at the next level.
Swayman had an excellent year. Maine just hasn't been the same program for a while. Devin Shore was probably the last player out of their program to make a splash in the NHL. Nyquist was their star over a decade ago, Jimmy Howard was their stud goalie in the early 2000s and then you have to go back to the 90s for the Kariya brothers. Paul Kariya and Jim Montgomery were awesome in '92-93.

Yup, I saw Blais signed a new deal with the Blues as well. Happy with that cap hit for Scandella.

So the Grigorenko deal was invalid but this Demchenko signing for Montreal is okay? I couldn't understand what was posted last night about the Grigorenko contract.
Sounds like the Grigorenko signing can still happen but it couldn't occur now.

I believe the only deals you can sign that are for next season are ELCs until this season officially concludes. So signing Grigorenko has to wait until season is over or sign a deal that includes 19-20.

There are extensions being signed for next year (Korpisalo, Scandella, Blais, et al) but maybe since he had a contract and left the NHL, he can't sign with the other players signing their first contract.

It seems that the NHL is hoping to go ahead with a June draft based upon team point percentage.

We'll wait for their final call and figure out how that would work for us. If they still do a June draft, we'll have to have figure a way to do our draft on June 1.
Maybe we just take the standings as is, no lottery...all depends on what the NHL does for theirs. We certainly could still run a lottery of some kind but the rest of the draft order will have to based on standings rather than the playoff results if they don't finish the season by then.

I think the NFL draft proved last night that a virtual draft could work and be a made-for-TV product. The NFL at least the opportunity to run a combine before everything started to shut down.

the NHL geniuses are even talking about an early June draft. Luckily most teams seem against it so far

Definitely need the season to play out (or be cancelled) before a draft.

If they decide to begin theirs in the beginning of June then we will need to start ours mid may? Seems doable, given most people are at home at the moment.
I could see them cancelling the season, and then doing the draft, and having the playoffs afterward.

Sounds like they hope to make a decision on when to hold the draft very soon:

that narrative pushing for an early June draft is so lame
