How do you figure expansion fall out? .

I was under the impression the Blackhawks could have protected only one out of Crawford and Darling, so they would have lost him for nothing. But thanks for letting me know that has nothing to do with the trade

Darling wasn't under contract nor was he going to resign in Chicago. Absolutely zero to do with expansion.

Yeah, Chicago knew he was walking and got something for him rather than nothing. Vegas isn't taking a UFA as Matthew said above. Weird move for Carolina though, giving up a 3rd for a pending UFA. Better hope they can sign him.

I doubt he signs with anyone before the start of fa. They basically bought the right to negotiate and throw some numbers around before he goes and talks to other teams. He's likely going where ever he has the best chance to be the clear starter.

no chance he would have resigned for the team he has always cheered for? it's not like he he had his best season, he could have been in better position to sign his career deal next season

No chance. He wants to start. He's not going to get there with Crawford in Chicago. He's what 28? He's not getting any younger.

GM's are idiots. Continuing to pay for past success, rather than future expectations. They are too afraid to make tough decisions and instead sign awful contracts.
