I'm not too excited about it but it's going to happen.
Also, Willie Mitchell has narrowed his choice of teams down to Detroit, San Jose and Washington.

Your a weird wings fan I have been a wings fan forever and i think modano is a great signing for a third line center. Good job guys older players always succeed there.

I'm not weird...I'm realistic. He's 40..and not 40 like Nick Lidstrom is. He's a far cry from what he used to be and the only reason he's playing another season is because the Stars threw him on his ass. I'm not a big fan of the move but it is probably going to just a one-year experiment. I imagine Holland is looking to load up enough for at least one more season while he's still go Lidstrom.
Will he help? I don't know at this point. I figured they had enough depth at forward already. My hope was that they'd get their #5/#6 defenseman spots figured out first. Modano wasn't going anywhere most likely...but meanwhile, the free agent market with defensemen continues to thin out. At least, the possibility of Willie Mitchell is encouraging.

There are some cheap guys out there for a #6 option and we also have some decent young guys waiting in the wings

shoalzie you're crazy. modano could be a major reason the wings win the cup this year. what do they lose? one year of developing younger guys? lesser ice time for abdelkader, helm? if they win a cup thats a small price to pay.

He's a name...they wouldn't sign another 40 year old center if wasn't him and the fact he's a hometown guy. I'm sure he's got some piss & vinegar in him for the fact the Stars kicked his ass to the curb and he'll want to stick to them so he can retire on his terms. For that, I see he might have a little extra juice in his game. I look at him as a guy with a lot of miles and potentially injury problems making him a limited contributor. I love the guy and what's done in his career but he's another name past his prime the Wings are chasing to hope plug a hole.
And yes, that'll likely bury Abdelkader another year. I talked to Scott about that. With Draper still having a year left, they re-sign Miller and Eaves and now you add Hudler and Modano...yes, they're deeper up front but they take away an opportunity to a player like Abdelkader and now, he's looking at not being a full-time guy for another year. Is that a small price to pay? We'll see...I'm not a fan of it but I'd like to be proven wrong. I usually kiss Kenny Holland's ass for every move he makes...this one I'm not sold on.

It's not exactly a high-risk move.

i just did..thx for pointing that out.
i got used to the fact my pickups (along with draft selections) were never available on CBS and forgot to check out for his availability. To my surprise i see he is there despite not being in the league for so long.

Chiarelli said that Seguin, who played centre in juniors, fits in best at wing right now on the Bruins. Boston already has four centres
Wow, moving Seguin to wing!!!
Modano has negotiated with the Wings a one-year deal, expected to be worth $1.25 million.
Mikey in @ 3rd line centre, Helm and Abdelkader to fight it out for #4 centre.
He'll pick up further minutes playing the point on the second power-play unit, opposite Niklas Kronwall
From the mouth of the horse:
Zetty - Dats - Holmstrom
Bert - Flip - Franzen
Cleary - Modano - Hudler
Ritola* - Helm - Abdelkader (?)
-Miller-Draper-Eaves-
thats one hell of a lineup.
This really makes me wish I hung on to him...

I am pretty sure i posted this same quote like 4 months ago and got totally lambasted. Everyone in here knows better than the actual coaches and GMS of real NHL teams.

It's still baffling to me. Tyler is such a natural centre... or at least appeared to be IMO. And the word out of Edmonton is Hall to centre, focusing on face-off related drills and stuff...
Oilers:
Hemsky-Gagner-Penner
Eberle-Hall-MSP
Jones-Horcoff-Brule
Jaques-Fraser-Stortini
-MacIntyre-
??? Cogliano is outsikis ???
Still... I'm loving the Bruins, something like:
Lucic - Savard - Recchi
Seguin - Krecji - Horton
Sturm - Bergeron - Wheeler
Paille - Marchand - Ryder
**Reich, Sauve, Thornton**
both of those teams have exciting times a-comin.
