It was meant to be in place to start the season, but the goalies whined or something and it got delayed. The goalies have had the pants for months and some are all ready using them. It's not the end of the world.

Yep. The goalies have been huge babies about something relatively minor. This was supposed to be in place in the offseason and goalies have been dragging their feet. Once the player safety was okay with them and signed off they were putting them in as early as possible. The goalies knew it was going to be in place on Feb. 4th and some goalies have been using these since the beginning of the season (or at least, very early in to the season).

I know a guy like Dubnyk and Smith are just making the change now. I see that article points out a few names that have been wearing them too. On top of that, I've heard you can actually form these pants so that they are actually wider than the original or something. So..

A goalie that is 5'10 190lbs should not be able to wear the same size equipment as a goalie that is 6'5 220lbs.
