He's only 18...didn't think he's eligible for this draft. How can an NHL team sign him already?

Myers was 18 and signed today. Teams can give contracts to players after they have been passed on in their draft year.

Well it's a little more complicated since Tkachev couldn't be signed last year but it has to do with where they played in their age 18 season.

They did, teams do it all the time.

With that said, there should be a cut off date for signings for the waiver draft. For example, Myers wasn't available to someone who had a better pick because he signed after our waiver draft started.

Fair point Lee, I think in future drafts the cut off should be the first day of the draft. Myers would have them been involved in the free for all after the draft so he would have still been picked up eventually.

Yeah, Myers should be green for this draft as should other already signed draft eligible players, but moving forward the rule should be implemented / altered.

As far as Stephens goes, he would not be eligible since he is unsigned draft eligible.

Non draft eligible NCAA players are allowed regardless of contract status.

It's going to be cutting it close this morning to wrap this up so I'm say free agency claims can start tomorrow at noon. I'll post the new thread later today.

Drops can still happen but you can't "freely" drop a signed player.

I like what Lee was getting at...any player/prospect signed after the start of the waiver draft shouldn't be "draftable" but should be eligible to be claimed in free agency when that window opens. We can do that starting next season.
