7 teams within 5 points, 6 teams within 3 points and 3 teams within 2 points...that whole thing could go a lot of different directions.

Realistically, there's 9 teams alive in each conference going for the 8 spots...teams like Arizona, Carolina and New Jersey are screwing themselves. They overachieved but they're still not playoff good.

with the new lottery is a bit early to say they screwed themselves, theoretically they could select 1st, 2nd and 3rd after winning the lotteries :)

You're looking at 3.5% or worse odds for slots 10-14. Yeah, you have odds to pick higher but they're long odds if you just miss out on the playoffs.

Vesey's agent confirmed today that he will be going to free agency. This is why I would always be hesitant to draft a college bound player in the NHL.

I find unacceptable the NHL jerks didn't bother to fix this loophole with the new CBA. They just care about the money, gross (see concussions saga for the ultimate proof)

I hope Vesey will fail a la Schultz, and he has become overrated, so that's a possibility.

He had an okay freshman year but wasn't pro ready like Larkin. He showed progress in his sophomore year and I'm not shocked he's making the jump now.

There needs to be a special rule in terms of length of NHL rights for NCAA players. These guys can basically spend 4 years to play hockey and get a university education for free, then pick whatever team that shows interest in them that they want, screwing the team that spent a draft pick on them.

exactly, it's pure BS, and it was well known from the previous CBA already..

I've wasted far too much time this morning reading through the unsealed NHL front office e-mails.

(document cache under article)

Lots of good stuff in there. Colin Campbell is such a goon.

It's not chronological unfortunately. I got through the first half of it today.

I suggest skipping all the memoranda, it's a bit dry compared to the e-mails.

I mean, searching through the search tool I obviously only get links to other articles of that same website, none of this https://www.documentcloud.org/documents shit

basically, I don't know what does '(document cache under article)' mean

Shep gets special treatment.
