It does. I haven't used my formula from last year so much this year due to the fragmentation of data (lockout).

I admit to ignoring all but well-proven durations in that category. I was + 40 something at one point this year, and am
Minus 20 something now.

nice write up... btw the GP does include those not in active roster right? coz with my depth there's loads of GP that are actually not played.

No - GP is just from dressed, otherwise is doesn't effect/reflect its impact on other stats.

Let’s get the injury excuses out of the way, not that missing players doesn’t effect the outcome, but it’s part of the game and something that has effected the entire season to date – still have other bodies that could have made the difference.

That’s a big list, just of the playoff teams, so if anyone is feeling they were targeted uniquely it’s a false belief. Bigger impact or newer injuries perhaps, but it’s something all team battle.


GP is the next common conversation, leading all playoff teams this week was Mik’s Predators with 70, followed by Hong, Shep, Thom, & Bryma wraping up the top 4. Not surprisingly 3 of these teams survived round 1. The bottom 5 teams for playoffs, starting at #16, Kyle’s Rangers, Mike’s Leafs, Cliff’s ducks, Shiv & I. Mike’s team the only team able to over-come the low GP. Not much spread to be honest, 50-58 in the bottom 5, 62-70 in the top 5. LAK vs NSH was the biggest GP difference with Mik having 8 more. Of note on this front, was mike’s low GP give his 3rd overall season GP.

Goals were lead by Hong (16) Thom (12) Shep (11), Aidan (10) and Berg (10), the bottom 5 were Cliff (4), Bryma (4) KyleG (6) Mike (7) & myself (7). Minny & Wsh both belong at the top being #3 & #4 on the year, however TBL is #1 on the regular season averaging over 14 on the year – over double what was managed under the ‘tight-checking’ playoff hockey.

Assists were led by COL (28), NSH (25) BOS (23) TBL (21) and STL (20), low end was ANA (3), MTL (10), NYR (13), LAK (13), CGY (14). STL & TBL average in the top 5 and found themselves there this week, of the playoff teams CGY, NYR, & ANA bring up the bottom 5 and found themselves there as well. Less outliers in this category. although LAK averages over 20 and fell well short at 13.

Points on the week were led by COL, MIN, NSH, BOS & STL – MIN the only team who you can find in the top 10 on the year (at #5). The low end of scoring goes to the Ducks, followed by MTL, NYR, LAK & CGY. Once again the big outliers on average are LAK & TBL, joined by PIT – all three more than 10 points under average. Offensively powered teams falling flat in the early round.

Special Team Points, the Preds find themselves in a group of their own in round 1, with 13, STL COL & WSH each had 9, BOS wraps up the top 5 w/8. WSH & STL were regulars in this category, averaging roughly their outcome. The preds more than doubled their typical score. TBL & PIT scored less than half of their normal special team points, LAK barely even showed up with just 2 special team points this week.

Shots on Goal were led by Hong, Mik, myself, Thom and Josh, from 140 to 127. Hong and I are regulars atop this category, Thom typically right there too. GWG were led by MIN, TOR, TBL, BOS & PIT, which is a fairly even match to the expected totals from the regular season.

Blocked shots in round 1 were led by TBL & MTL (tie at 66), BOS & WSH (tie @ 63), STL & CBJ (tied at 62) Bryma is the only normal top 5 in this group – CGY, COL, NYR, PIT & Tor bring up the bottom 5, from 43 to 47. CGY is an outlier typically found in the top 5.

LAK led the week with 105, CBJ close behind at 103 – COL, NYR & ANA bring up the top 5. LAK, NYR & CBJ are the normal crowd here.
PIT, MIN, STL, NJD & CBJ won the faceoff’s this week, all of whom are typically in the top 10, PIT, MIN & CBJ own the 3-5 spots on the year. #1 (TBL) & #2 (TOR) on the year find themselves well back this week, 12th and 14th on the week.

Short-handed time on ice was led this week by the same team that led the regular season, CBJ.

Penalty minutes were also led by CBJ, who also led the regular season. LAK, MTL also had to spend a lot of time in the box. CGY , NSH & TOR played very clean weeks.

The always-random +/- was led by a mile, by Mik (19), WSH, NYR, STL & TOR bring up the top 5. Mik is only +39 on the year, showing how unpredictable this category is.

Berg led the wins category going 4/4 w/.931 but a less impressive 2.20, Shep led GAA with 0.5, a .984 sv% and 2 wins, Chuck had a clean slate of nice numbers with 3wins, 1.75GAA and .938. Bryma found himself well setup with a .75 GAA, .969 sv% but only 1 win. BOS and COL also benefited from fantastic goaltending.

Obviously showcasing that although over a year these categories are very predictable, in a given week they are prone to large variance. Who you matchup against, how many GP, key player GP, injuries, un-typical player production (hot or cold), etc – Head to head playoffs really make it anyone’s game.

Good write up nick, and like i said in shiv's writeup of week 1 of the playoffs, i think next season will be different. Injuries played a major part in week 1 of the playoffs

i'm not using it as my excuse, because i can't, i've been healthy all year, Miks team was just a beast this week!

Yeah makes you wonder how things have fared if you had Sid and Oshie. FWIW losing Heatley for 2 GP and Larsson a healthy scratch for 3 of his 4 GP and Clitsome missing 1 GP hurt me as well.

Bah, Nick's write-up just frustrates me more by telling me my team had the worst week of its season.
