Or Burke family issue, and MSLE is good enough to fire him to pay out his contract (versus quitting/retiring).
Or Owners & Burke disagree on spending targets, Burke may have advised the owners something on behalf of Gary, which the board now believes (1 day of BOG meeting???) to be inaccurate, perhaps an internal organizational issue that will never come public.
But it COULD be Lou related... no way do we have enough information to believe that is the 'only' reason.
Extreme emotional responses are hilarious though. But yes, let's have the suits decide if we are Leaf fans or not
No longer interested is far from changing teams. I'll be a Leaf fan til the day I die, but this move barring some unforseen bit of info that comes out in the press conference, comes as a complete shock and I cannot see a replacement on the market that is a viable replacement.
Carlyle nowhere near safe, reportedly.
Jim Nill is the only guy out there that MAY be available I'd have interest in.
Nonis and *gulp* Colin Campbell are reportedly the frontrunners for the GM job.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Dave Nonis is the next GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Unclear whether that is interim or unconditional appointment.

Nonis makes sense... great signing history, good trade history... probably the guy Burke recommended.

What d you think JFJ was? lol.

This isn't an emotional response. We dealt with the puppet that was JFJ. Then Burke was brought in with the promise of blarney, autonomy , et al. To find out that they are still pulling the strings?
I will no longer be a fan of this franchise, as long as MLSE / Bell owns this company. I live 15 minutes away from the Saddledome and I'm used to cheering for shitty, poorly run franchises. I'll fit right in. I will even post video of me burning every Leaf thing that I have.

Nonis is a much better GM than Burke

But yes, I have a feeling this is either over Burke going all in for Luongo, or not wanting him at all.

meh Nonis is nothing special. Pretty run of the mill gm other than the luongo deal imo.

Burrows, Edler, Bieksa, and the Lou trade? Between him and Burke you have the foundation for the President trophy winning & cup finalist Canucks...

Lol, you can join my brother who also lives in Calgary and is a die hard leafs fan who is on his last leg with the franchise.

Higgins, Booth, Hamhuis, malholtra, ballard, lack, garrison, Erhoff (when we had him), tanev.. yes those two set up a core but you have to give gillis some credit lol.
Nonis imo never got a fair shake in van. Imo the jury is still out on him as a gm.
Burke was fired too soon in van because the owners didnt like him and it worked out for us, maybe it will for you too.

Was Burke not responsible for obtaining edler burrows bieksa kesler etc etc?

Not saying Nonis is a bad gm, he completely fixed our goaltending situation. I just think its going to be the same case with Burke as other teams have had, where you see Burke brought in the majority of the teams core players and then is fired. Lupul, Gardiner, Rielly, Kessel, JVR etc will probably be the leafs best players for quite some time.

Shook - Garrison hasn't even put your jersey on yet, no need to throw credit to Gillis for him yet, ditto on Lack. Booth & Ballard have failed to date, Malhortra was out when needed most (not his or GM's fault, but ultimate impact minimized). Tanev a bottom pairing D-man. Higgins, Hamhuis sure, full credit for Gillis, 2/25, almost all other and (all) cornerstone pieces are Burke drafts and/or Nonis signees/developed.
Pete-
Depends on level - but No iirc the management changed during those players transition. Burrows was an ECHL/ball-hockey signing by Nonis, Bieksa an AHL signing out of Bowling Green by Nonis (under Burke GM days) - Kesler is pure Burke iirc. But untangling the two is very tough, just as it is during this leaf duration with one as GM and the other as assistant GM and heads up lots of trade talks/signings.
