Everyone should have known things were going to be bad once Fehr was brought on. The guys the lockout king.
This! I have said it wayy too many times but it is soo true. Fehr was not brought in to avoid a strike, he was brought in to win a strike. He is a brilliant man that knows how to control the media as does a good politician.

Bettman had the support of the people last time but he won't this time. Thankfully even his own mother doesn't love him so he is used to the hate or he might be talked into a system that would ruin the competitive state our game is in. Personally I think the game is the best it has ever been, in my lifetime anyways. It isn't the same 6-8 teams doing it every year because of money anymore like baseball. I want hockey next year and I hope once games and money are missed both sides will stop being idiots and figure this out.

Im pretty sure I remember Boston Kyle (could be someone else) talking about getting his hands on some sort of program involved with forest planning at his work to help us create a balanced schedule. Where we could set terms in the scedule like play x games vs division and x games vs conference. We always had issues making sure it was all balanced.

There's gotta be a script on Excel to run that'll get us a very accurate schedule to meet our needs.

... Shoalzie? :)

Yea, i mentioned it. It is using this company's software:

http://www.remsoft.com/index.php

It is basically a weighted Random schedule creator. The weighting factor being: conference, division, numbers of times played, etc.

I looked forever on excel and found nothing but there are professional paid pieces of software out there that they sell to minor leagues and municipalities for setting up, for example, a baseball league schedule as well as fields to play on at given times. I will get some more info on the ones we use here at work and if they could do what we want.

One thing i think we could do, and Shoalzie might be the guy to get something like this going, is to use a RNG in excel and focus on divisional play, then conference, then league with rules set for each run. We would have to run it 30 times removing the already predetermined set teams from contention on every successive round (div, conf, etc) It would take some time but it would be legit.

The east is no where near what it used to be still better the margin is vanishing. If you look at the top 8 in both confs NJD, PITS, TBL, WSH, BOS, OTT, TOR, MTL vs STL, CBJ, NSH, VAN, MIN, COL, LAK, SJS The gap is no where near what it used to be. It used to be 3ish good teams in the west compared to 10ish in the east. Somehow through dumb luck and people quitting this league has levelled out more than I ever thought I would see. Although at this point the east is still stronger, I will not argue that at all.

honestly, I think im there this season. If not, my team has enough young guns (Taylor Hall, PK Subban, Cam Atkinson, Tarasenko, Burmistrov, David Savard, Nino, Matt Martin, Varlamov, sobotka, abdelkader) that they should improve and get me into the playoffs the next season for sure. Keep in mind that my "vets" are all young too lol. Vanek and Kovy both under 29, Ehrhoff is like 30, same with Konopka I think. Brad Stuart I think is my oldest every day player (I don't count Giguere cause he is a backup)

Nice to hear you think I am getting there though, thanks :).

Scott and I quitting really changed the dynamics of both conferences, as well as Buffalo tearing it down and NSH building a more competitive group.

There was just a core group of posters who used to talk a lot of shit about Mik and his squad that it actually put him under the radar, so to speak!

It was never given credit because it was never very good. Maybe by the West's past standards, but overall it was a very average group. This season however, Nashville has a legitimate shot to crack a more difficult top 8.

Other than Brad Richards, his team is the exact same.
