I didnt say he wasnt a garuntee. how good he will be 60point guy or 90 is the question. I also meant schenn was a garunteed nhler not a garunteed star. the rest of what he got in the deal isnt garunteed to make the nhl. Thats more along the lines of what I meant. So if you still disagree with that statement your dumb lol. I get it tho wording, it could easily be taken that way

i like LA abit more
when both schenn and seguin bust, both become non-factor in this deal and LA got the picks for free.

Yea, no way in hell Seguin or Hall bust. I think most will agree with that.

Anyone can bust...That being said it is highly improbable.

I know that, which is why i won't give half my active roster under 25 and all my picks for one damn entry pick in the top 10. People are fucked around here with there pick values...INSANITY i say...But yea you are right. Everyone uses Daigle as the main example. I would say he was an oddity and maybe a bad first pick...lol.

It depends on the pick...What if said prospect vaults into all star or even superstar status? Is it a bust then? Of course not. If you do your due diligence, and research and/or observe a prospect first hand it is intelligent to make a trade for them before they prove themselves at the next level, because by then they are likely unattainable.

IMO, it is just as naive to build a roster solely on veterans and proven players, as it is to build solely on youth and draft picks. It is essential to combine both elements into an organization.

Trust me, i know that. I have a balanced team, no matter what you may say. I would love to have some of the young superstars you have but i dont so will work with what i got. I was trying really hard for that 5th pick from Steve but i came to my senses. Kelly + Gilroy + Colborne + Florida 1st 2011 for 5th overall and Stillman is what it last was. That does not help me any so i had to back out. I will use my research to pick out some gems later in the draft and still challenge for the championship this year and next and next..I'll be ok ;)

I'm not gonna lie, I would have taken the above deal and ran...Brandon Gormley/Erik Gudbranson (who I'd take at 5) are superior to what you were giving up. Frankly I'm shocked Steve would offer that. Gilroy and Kelly are easily replaceable, Florida's first projects to be a selection in a weak draft, and Colbourne, while solid, will never be confused with a lottery selection...

Yea, see thats where I seem to differ in opinion with alot of people in here. You guys are so obsessed with youth and the sky is the limit possibility that it tends to fog opinions. I am more of the what have you done for me lately type. I understand the values and you may be right on this one but for me this year, it was not the proper move to make. I am lacking on D and believe Gilroy will have a much bigger year. Kelly is an all star for certain stats in this league. I have not formulated too strong of an opinion on Colborne yet. If i was in a different situation with my team i would have done it but i don't need to do it this year. It is the time of year to not be looking top picks. I am now learning that...lol

This has nothing to do with an obsession, or sky is the limit type thinking...I have more proven players than you, so obviously that isn't it at all, if a player is good, he is good, no need to take away from that because some people overrate picks. There is a reason lottery picks are so expensive, and highly touted in real life, it's because they have franchise changing potential, this years top 5, arguably top 10, is no different. Screw value in this league for a moment, you were offered a GREAT trade, and it's not like you were giving up proven studs, you were giving up a plumber in Chris Kelly, and three unknowns in Colbourne, 1st rounder and Gilroy. If you ask me, you're not taking that deal is hypocritical, there are more unknowns associated with those assets then there are with the 5th overall pick...

Daigle > Pat Falloon (SJ's first ever pick, 2nd overall)

Scott Niedermayer was taken right after him ... our scouts suck.

I don't disagree with what you are saying but again i feel that you are thinking of the real life NHL not BBKL fantasy. The SHTOI or HITS or BS categories are alot of the times the stats that make the difference whether you win or not. So you saying Kelly is a plumber is not true when you take into account his 227 mins of shtoi into account. If this was the real NHL i would be tapping you on the back and agreeing. In fantasy land, not so much. I think i am having dejavu too because i believe we have had this disagreement before...lol. Its all good. Who knows I may still get one of those picks. Just becasue i didnt take that deal doesn't mean i wont be drafting in top 10 ;)

Brandon Gormley and Erik Gudbranson, the two defenceman I would select with that pick project as all around defensive studs, Gudbranson excels on the physical side, and Gormley is a defensive monster, combine that with solid offensive numbers and my point stands, irregardless of the topic of conversation (NHL V. Fantasy). As for Kelly I said plumber, not plug, plumber is merely a term used to describe guys in the bottom 6 who do the dirty work, I.E. killing penalties, and playing physical.

Last season I miscalculated the value of certain traits, I will be the first to admit that, but I adjusted on the fly, and in the end it wasn't my evaluation of players that killed me, but rather my inability to stay healthy, and I suppose you could argue my goalie evaluation skills were lacking too, but I took care of that when I picked up Miller.
