Guidance was given.. and this deal made sense.. to him and me. Shane Doan's an old man and not in Bill's plans.. top 15 picks are going to skyrocket in value very soon.. no brainer.

So you would do this trade?
If his roster was yours?

If it meant me locking up the 2nd overall pick.. yes I would.

Aight, my apologies.
I do not think looking at the trade as if it's for 2nd overall is sounds logic; locking up 2nd overall is a good decision but I see the trade and a good overall plan as distinct concepts.
Hearing people say " player X is not in my long term plan" is almost a lock for them to sell them too cheap... what long term plan, doubt every player is listed on there, likely more the thought of youth and exciting LOL... got proper value when you move any piece of your team ! It'll allow you to slowly get the team you want
!
I also feel like I should note -> Scott... did you lose that original deal
?
Letang for a homo dman + 1st & 2nd .... I'm sure I've offered Mike something similar

I definitely lost the original deal. de Haan & DET 1st (top 3 protect) -> top 15 & 2nd rounder for Letang.
I just know from talking with Bill over the last couple of weeks that he has a solid plan. He and I have constantly been talking player value, pick value, prospect value, and the direction he should (wants) to go this year, next year, etc. Bill also has a few ideas of what he wants to do with his draft picks and the kind of team he wants to have. He also has a few other deals on the go that look to be on track with his plans. Maybe he could've gotten more here but let's see what he does next before jumping down his throat.

just from brief conversations with Bill, he seems to already have a better understanding of player value/what it takes to win than some of less new GMs.
this deal is not even close to bad enough to start questioning him already.

Deal stirred alil more discourse than I had anticipated haha...Yeah I understand your guys logic of I'm not getting a top 2 pick+prospect for Doan on paper. I mean sometimes you make a deal to reach a, end goal.I figured the longer I waited fishing for a deal the closer to crunch time it would be leaving me out to dry or causing me to get rolled in a deal. Maybe this was over payment possibly maybe it was a sound move possibly we all have a different mindsets on how we develop a team, and being new my decision making will be questioned that is a given. I felt comfortable with this move weighing the costs and "potential" results...worst case it bites me in the ass and I learn a lesson.

Just wait until you see a real explosion.
