Goalies are not worth 2nd round draft picks. They are too much of an unknown thing. That is unless you have a no miss prospect like Fleury, Price etc. Guys that you know will for sure play in the NHL.

I think the thing is that you can find goalies with a similar or even better skill-set in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, & maybe even 6th & 7th rounds of any drafts. Paying a 2nd rounder for a goalie prospect who has been passed over twice nonetheless just isn't a smart move whether he's worth it or not.

i disagree completely. conz is better than goalies found in such rounds. only the 3rd round you can make an arugmetn but even then its not all goalies. conz has proven to be able to compete with top draft level talent in the past two years. that will translate to the nhl as he gets older. obviously there is a chance he wont pan out but that is the case with a lot of 2nd rounders.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Goaltending at the pro level has a lot to do with skill-set, coaching, and the team they play for. If you look really hard at the draft, you can find Benjamin Conz clones everywhere. Why waste a 2nd rounder on a risky prospect that there's only 30 full-time and 30 part-time jobs available for?

Now, Conz is a far stretch to ever see an NHL game, simply doesn't have the raw physique of a starter; questionable leg speed, and no where near the size. Lacking understanding of developing goalies isn't an excuse for telling another member here on the BBKL that they make no sense, Conz is not worth a draft pick to an NHL team, why he'd be worth a 2nd to us, now perhaps that makes no sense

I understood what you said. And I said i disagree. Most goalies drafted have not proven they can keep up with the types of teams Conz has kept up with. The ONLY REASON he was not drafted is because of size. If he was 3 inches taller the kid couldve arguably been a 1st rounder with the way he carried the Swiss this year and last year. There's risk attached to him because of size only. But the only times size should be overlooked is when there is skill set that supercedes priority in the circumstance. Conz is one of those exceptions.

Janus was better in the same short tournament, has a strong background in the OHL, bigger, more athletic, quicker, and was actually drafted (only passed over once). If Conz is worth a 2nd, Janus is worth a 1st, very simple really.
