Logan Thompson is potentially the most valuable goalie(for contenders) in bbkl for the next few seasons, if he can stay in the 915sv. Georgiev may be equally as good but Thompson's contract is insane. Me having franc/sway For a total of 3m has been HUGE for my team the past couple years.Shoalzie wroteCOLON ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 6:33 am Georgiev is a #1 goalie (on the defending champs) making $3.4 million over the next 3 seasons and is putting up the best numbers of his career right now...and he's only 27 and he's been a backup until now so there's a lot of tread on the tires. I fail to see how Georgiev can't be just as good of an investment as Thompson going forward. Unless you can secure one of the goalies on the Vezina...Georgiev is a guy I'd be comfortable with going forward.
Honestly, salary aside...who in this league would rather have Thompson over Georgiev? At worst, they're equals. Georgiev in Colorado is putting up the same numbers as Thompson has been putting up since getting playing time with the Golden Knights.
From Mik's point of view, he could've easily moved Georgiev for futures alone since he's organizationally loaded in goal. Frank is a rebuilding team has a couple of other NHL starters...he arguably could've done the same for Thompson. When you're a bad team, having a good goalie now...it seems count-productive unless you've got a phenom that you can hold onto for the next decade and never have to worry about that spot on your roster.
To me, in terms of the bottom tier teams in our league...Paul has the best goaltending situation with Sorokin but he's the same age as Georgiev. The ideal situation is having THAT goalie under 30 and if they're signed for cheap-ish, that's a bonus.
Outside of Price, Bobrovsky and Vasilevskiy...no other goalies have an AAV higher than $6.4 million. Goaltending really won't break your salary cap no matter who you're invested in. Current contracts...66 forwards and 33 defensemen carry an AAV of at least $6.4 million.

Frank could've leveraged his smaller salary into more assets in the deal...I get those arguments. Player-for-player...they're very equal to me. If you're a contending team up against the cap, I totally understand why you'd rather have Thompson with his salary and the fact he's waiver exempt this year.
Next year, he could have a different value since he won't be waiver exempt and he might not against as much playing time when Lehner is "healthy". His small salary does make him a nice piece for the life of the current deal...no doubt.
