What's your point?

My point is that he hasn't shown any indication he can be anything more than he is now, let alone a 20 goal NHL scorer who played a crucial role on a Stanley Cup winning team.

The only part of that trade that has any value going to Chicago was Dido and he broke his femur.

He's also 4" bigger, 20lbs heavier, way faster, and just transitioning to the pro-game. He was a major loss of the leafs IMO.
Vertbeauty has wicked hands, but is selfish as Shiv, so he turns it over way way too often.... at least from watching the hawks that's what i've seen... but he does do some nice highlight reel stuff when it works.

You mean like 2nd in Hobey Baker voting?
-or leading the pre-season in scoring?
- or 9 goals in 39 games? ( and solid AHL #'s in the middle 1/2 the season)... All of which point towards 20+ goal NHLer...
Kezia, you've closed the book on Stalberg way to early.

I like the move. Doesn't mean it's not short-sighted.
He traded a player starting to develop out of the NCAA + prospects for a player that is playing in the NHL.
As early as THIS SEASON, Stalberg could out-point Versteeg.

Nick outlined every reason why it could be yet another deal to bite us in the ass in some way.

I'm sure all of this would be impressive if he was 19 and not turning 25 half way into the season.

Really? this is your argument? were you not the one suporting jason blake and his illustrious NCAA career and then NHL career. Jason Blakes best season in the ncaa came at the ripe old age of 25-26....also didnt end up making a 20 goal impact until the 2002-2003 season, which made him 30. Do you have a different criteria for every player you critique?

Regardless of age there is still a transition to NHL.
9 goals in 39 games is on pace for 20 over 82.... and once again, he was a rookie on a team lacking offence, when he was hit with passes at stride he'd usually make something exciting happen.

He also played on the 4th line with Colton Orr for at least 1/3 of those 39 games.

I think that what's lost in all of this is that someone actually expects stalberg on the 3rd line to surpass versteegs point total on the first or 2nd line

Stalberg could definitely play in the top 6.

who knows where stalberg plays on chicago... is he going to slot in next to sharpe & hossa? be a fast attack line? that 2nd unit is far superior to anything the leafs throw out there..

Please tell me where the fallacy lies in asserting that yip or bozak will never score 40 goals in the NHL and that blakes worst season is better than their best or that either will be lucky to have the type of career that Blake has had ?

that point isnt lost and no one here would overturn that trade to get stalberg back. They are just saying that stalberg could turn out to be a legit top 6 and make this a trade to look back on with regret. That is the point that seems to be lost here, not that stalberg is better currently.

despite this teams very apparent lack of top 6 forwards let alone goal scorers , he could never hold down so much as a 3rd line role

again you are missing the point. I am not saying blake was a terrible player or bozak, yip or stalberg are better. I am just saying how could you so quickly dismiss a player when you love a player who took even longer to develope. That is where the fallacy lies and if you cant see that I am truely sorry.

I guess big bad Bolland and Brouwer are much too elite to stop Stalberg from the top 6. What with their 47 and 40 point career highs, respectively.
