Ehrhoff's contract is crazy front loaded..he makes 22 million the 1st 3 years and only 3 million in the last 3 years. Will the NHL look at it?

But wasn't the Kovy deal 17 years and projected playing way past a probably age. This contract is like a 7 year contract of performing. Then a built in 3 year for when he is out of prime. A little more logic in this contract I feel.

The reason these types of deals are considered circumvention under the cap is because the majority of the contract is paid out in the first 3/4 of the deal, leaving little to no motivation for players to play out the contract.

Kovalchuck's contract had a higher annual cap hit, ergo the term had to be longer to spread out the dollars. You need to look at the money being paid out at the beginning of the contract, and in the last few years, not the total years. Years in this case are relative to total dollars (I.E. the higher the salary, the longer the term).

Pittsburgh withdraws their offer for Jagr. Sucks - out of the teams involved, I really wanted Jagr to sign with the Pens.

Hearing restricted free agent Steven Stamkos is not close to a new deal with TB so he's now eligible to receive offer sheets.
