Agreed.
Malhotra key on faceoffs and home town boy, would be huge for fan support. Michalek is a shot blocking machine, out glut at defence doesn't inspire confidence though that we'd pursue him.
O'sullivan is out there, not sure if I'm really interested but we have huge gaps at forward maybe a change would do him well.

OH SNAP
The San Jose Sharks have signed Blackhawks restricted free agent defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson to a free agent offer sheet, signing the defenceman to a four-year, $14 million dollar contract.
thats a cap of 3.5M... can chi-town match that? pretty lame for them.... already lost 7 players... I believe compensation is a 1st & 3rd...
& LOL at Buffalo signing Lalime, thats a dream for the leafs.

This offseason is getting more gnarly for the Hawks...that would be a very tough loss if they let him walk.

Still pretty deep top 6.
any team that has a Toews - Kane - Sharp - Keith - Seabrook - Hossa and some solid propects like Kyle Beach are still set up nicely.

They Hawks are stacked and can afford to lose a bit, they could still win the conference again next year, or at least be up there

Chicago lost a bunch of good, but not great and certainly not irreplaceable assets, in the meantime they have recieved a kings ransom for all of their pieces. They will recover from this stronger than ever as far as I am concerned.

I don't think they are any worse; however, they did lose a 20 goal - 3rd liner who can play the PP and PK in Versteeg.
And they did lost a 6'4" 260lbs+ Power Forward in Byfuligen. Those arn't easy pieces to replace.

Great players make those around them better, not vice versa. Versteeg and Byfuglien are replaceable pieces, nice players but replaceable. At the end of the day it is the top 6 and top 4 of Chi that won the cup, not bottom 6 and 5/6 defenceman.
....and once the new waive of top prospects arise in Chi they are going to be a fucking scary team.

MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONAnd there is a reason I traded for Kassian...True PF's are very difficult to come by, there is maybe three or four in the NHL today...Kassian is far from a floater, inconsistent yes, but that can be said about countless prospects, and can be easily corrected if the player is dedicated, and by all accounts Kassian is. No one is offering up a proven star for Kaberle, nor is he worth one the way he has played on Toronto, however Kassian and Stafford have massive upside if played the right way. Stafford never had a chande with Ruff, much like Afinoganov, he is free wheeling forward, limiting him to third line ice time with little pp, and demanding a shutdown game from is simply not gonna happen. He is what he is, a big body, with skill who plays like he's 5'6. I believe that with the right system and coaching, Stafford can be a valuable asset, and as far as I'm concerned Kassian is going to be one of the most coveted forwards in the league in 5/6 years. Just look at Backes, Stewart or Lucic...These guys are incredibly difficult to find.
Good call on Stafford past Kareem.

RDS (the french TSN) just reported that:
- Montreal is interested in Alexander Sulzer & Shane O'Brien out of Nashville.
- Boston is interested in Tomas Kaberle & Jason Arnott. They mention that Kaberle has not waived his no trade clause but that Boston is a city he would consider a trade to.
