You and CHI only had 7 picks in common based on his mock so you definitely would have much different teams.

Of the 3, Josi is probably the last one I would choose. He's a bitter pill to swallow at 9+ mil for the production he provides. That said, it's possible you could find someone dumb enough to cough up a decent 1st for him. Depending on how you feel about Mittlestadt's chances of breaking out, he may have been the better alternative to selecting Gavrikov.

And surprised no Toews rage here . Considering Savard was the pick, it's arguable rolling the dice on Toews may have been the better move.

Not upset here but get why he stayed away. Lots of uncertainty, wrong side of 30, big cap hit (though could be an asset perhaps if riding near the floor)

That’s a lot of assets that are only going to decrease in value while already being hard sells in our league…some good young pieces but I don’t see how this is any better? What’s this team going to win you besides maaaaaaahbe a playoff birth and a first round exit.

This is the actual Kraken team from his thread. Dube, Thomas and Foegele are the only players with value that might increase, not withstanding the other players on his list. The rest are all declining assets as well.

At least with my version the team is far more competitive for the next few years - while also possibly building through the draft. Also, IMO, regardless of the teams, the biggest swing and a miss was the lack of good deals to protect players. Kraken should have been far more agressive on that front. Not enough draft picks were acquired (like Vegas did in real life).

I was more referring to the deals that were made being too cheap (aside from Kings GM who must be pissed haha).

I messaged almost every GM that I could to make deals. I was extremely aggressive, but pike Bruyns said, I can't force someone to take a protection deal. I'm lucky I managed 6 deals, I almost had a 7th, but it didn't work out. Gaining 12 extra assets and still ending up with 31 pieces that for the most part, are worth something, is pretty damn good. Your team you made would be a great IRL expansion team, but fantasy-wise, is terrible compared to mine, and that's taking into account better players I left on the table to gain more assets. I do have some quality, but to give me a chance, I also need quantity.

and then he picked Austin Watson

so I lost the picks and Watson for 41 games played by Wideman after the draft, and is now in the KHL

Let me also sat this, my team might not be the best it could have been. I had some tough choices just like I had some extremely easy choices. Did I make some wrong calls? Maybe. But some of those "wrong calls" might turn out to be the right calls and some of those easy desicions could end up being disasters. We don't know what's going to happen. I took the best team I could overall, in my opinion.

Deals like these are what made it so difficult for me to make smaller deals. Most GMs mindset were "I'm losing a player so I see no point in giving up other pieces". I can guarantee IRL Seattle will face the same issues I did with teams being much more cautious when they make deals this time around.

Ya I think they were kinda cheap too including LA as Panik isn't a great piece and I'd take Crouse over Panik and a late 1st. I also think putting a premium on adding extra picks when you have no minors system is important so I guess if that was the best he could do it makes sense. Other option is you take a couple more high paid older players and hope GMs pay up with picks and prospects, but with in my experience that can be a tough sell finding a fit.

Which is why I took Shoalzie's advice and tried to take players I'd be ok with keeping rather than pick according to perceived trade value, because if no one trades for them, then what's the point?
