Barkov's legit. Tampa's going to be remembered for that draft as the team that took the player between Barkov and Jones. Brett Connolly, another big risk.
Hedman before Duchene just looks silly now too but that wasn't Stevie.
There is of course the benefit of looking at things in retrospect.

Tampa and Yzerman will always go high-end/high-risk. You can get pluggers everywhere.
Namestnikov, Kucherov, Polat, Vasilevski (G), Gusev, Drouin. Highly skilled players.

I don't think the Jones vs. Drouin decision had anything to do with high-end/high-risk. I think it was just a mistake.

On draft day, Jones vs drouin is not very different from hedman vs duchene

I don't think so. Drouin vs Duchene is really not comparable on draft day. Duchene to MacKinnon is probably more accurate. I'd also say Jones has more to his game on draft day. That being said, Hedman had a heck of a lot of buzz around him, with the potential to go 1st overall. I don't really look on that decision as poorly as the Drouin and Jones one.
I think Jones will be way ahead of Drouin in terms of value to a team once their careers are said and done. They can always find wingers to play with Stammer. Hedman-Jones would have been a formidable pairing on the back end to build around.
Who knows though. Maybe Drouin becomes a 80-90 point guy with Stammer for two decades. I just look at Seth Jones as a generational d-man in the making.

I'm convinced that all of Mackinnon, Barkov, Jones, and Drouin will be star players on their respective squads. I actually think Barkov is going to take the longest to show his upside. Once he does though he's going to be a massive first line ppg 2way threat imo with very few flaws in his game.
Drouin could definitely be a patrick kane type in the nhl, I think its rather realistic he becomes that actually ( crazy as it sounds). His skating isnt on that level, but his board play is really underrated, and quite frankly, there are a select few with hands like his. Those select few are Crosby, Kane, Datsyuk etc... he really is that skilled.

That's the reason I had Drouin 4th on my list though, its two future strong first line centers and a possibly generational dman, still think you can't go wrong taking drouin in a draft though.

For him to become Patrick Kane, he would have to hit his ceiling perfectly and then break through that ceiling and go even higher lol. How good has Patty been this year btw? Great story in the making if he wins the Art Ross. I've been following that closely

Okay to be fair, Kane took it to another level this year/last. ppg kane of his first few seasons is a semi-reasonable projection given what he's shown.

Requirement: the 18 year old I draft with the pick if I hold it cannot be a better hockey player right now than the player I trade the pick for.

I actually think picks have increased in value one way and decreased in another.
Decreased because people don't trade NHL stars for 2-3 picks.
Increased because people don't trade 1st Rounders just like that/treat them as throw ins. They're valuable assets and are treated like that.
We're at a perfect middle ground.
