You only play 6 games a season against divisional opponents, it's not like baseball where the division you are in dictates your success. Regardless, Vancouver has proven to be the best against elite competition, and consequently are in the Finals (having never been behind at any point). They are quite clearly the best team in hockey, of that there is little debate, both in practice, and on paper.

I also don't buy your claim that the best team wins the Cup, it is one of the poorest explanations in professional sports. Do you believe the 06 lead Canes were a better team than Ottawa in the same year (Redden, Chara, Hasek, Spezza, Heatley, Alfredsson, Meszaros, Havlat, Vermette, Fisher)? Several things can, and do happen over the course of a post season that skew the results: injury, strength of opponent, luck (yes that play's a part), officiating, opponent (T.O can't beat the Sabres to save their lives) and cold and hot streaks (cough Giguere in 03 cough*).

It is not as cut and dry as the best team on any given year wins the Cup. Don't oversimplify it...The team that performs the best wins the Cup, just as I could conceivably outperform you in a game of shimmy, that doesn't make me the better player, though.

FTR I agree in principle with your claims about subjectivity, but I believe this to be a rare instance, much like the 06 Senators where there can be no doubt as to who the best team is.

I have been a loyal fan and now I ask the hockey gods to grant this team a slice of the good side. There has been enough heartache in this franchise. please...please...Yes I am begging and i dont care. Bruins have been an amazing road team this year and they have shown in all games that they can play equal to the almighty Canucks. One game superbowl on the road. I think this team can do it and i am so excited that the opportunity is there. Come on B's....

theres no doubt, kesler has a major lower body injury, he dominated games by himself up until the cup finals, and now all of a sudden he doesnt feel like trying? ye bullshit, hes hurt... agreed on thomas being the mvp though, there definitely has not been a better player in the finals, not even close, it reminds of the year giguere won it in i forget what year around '03 i think, lost the finals but he won mvp, could be the same thing here if vancouver wins...

That would be 03 Luke, the year they lost to NJ in the Finals. I remember that post season run fondly, it was the greatest goal-tending display I have ever witnessed.

Kaberle has been surprisingly strong in the cup finals, I will give him that. He has been more active. Saying that, he probably will not be back in Boston. Now I followed the Oilers run then the Flames run and it was fun and all but lets see if we can have a third Canadian team lose in 7 just so the B's can do this tonight. The odds are definitely against them when you consider home ice advantage in Game 7's of years past. I'm hoping they can do what the Pens did. Maybe there will be a surprise showing from Horton????
