If I actually read the entirity of the rules I wouldn't look like an idiot but I didn't.. I'm glad shoalzie wrote that into the rules I always assumed it was the reverse until now but at least it is codified and there is one less thing for me to argue about, until the next time

No problem Luke...you had me doubting myself because I've misread a few rules of this league in my time.

Monk wroteCOLONI don't think it was that way for years, I think that line was just added in for this year, I don't recall being able to select players in waiver who are still eligible for the following entry draft
Not to be argumentative, just to defend what I stated before:
viewtopic.php?f=83&t=8662 [2012 Waiver Draft thread]
Eligibility
Automatically eligible for the 2012/2013 Waiver draft are ALL bbkl-free players who were:
- born before january 1st 1993, if they played a season in N.A. when 18,19 or 20yrs old
- born before january 1st 1992, if they never played in N.A. when 18,19 or 20yrs old

Additionally, bbkl-free players already signed to a NHL contract are eligible as well, even if born later than that.
So this is at least the 3rd waiver draft where that line was in place.
tbh I think it's the 4th, but I don't know where eligibility specifics where posted in 2011, which was the first season that had our waiver draft moved forward to September.

Anyway, no need to apologize Luke, hopefully this way we further clarified things for old and new members.

^^ Thx for posting that Mik, lesson learned on my part, I can't guarantee it but I'm gonna attempt to not cause confusion through my ignorance, at least for awhile, we''ll see

and there definitely was a reason to apologize imo, as I was wrong on all points, but Thx anyways for saying otherwise

1. Tampa Bay (from DET via CAR) --Petri Kontiola
2. Nashville (from DAL) -- Tomas Nosek
3. Toronto (from CAR) -- Jiri Sekac
4. Vancouver -- Simon Hjalmarsson
5. Edmonton -- Vitek Vanecek
6. Calgary -- Jussi Rynnas
7. Philadelphia -- Mike Reilly
8. Buffalo -- Seth Griffith
9. Winnipeg -- Matthew Lombardi
after a few days into the new season there already appear to be 3 sure misfires in the top 8, probably a bbkl record (Nosek was actually selected later on despite using that 2nd pick).
And J.Lindstrom went undrafted, on top of that.

Dunno about that. Still waiting for Carter Camper and Andy Miele to pan out.

I would wait a little bit of time before jumping on that J Lindstrom bandwagon, the guy has not stuck in two previous tries on this side of the ocean, maybe third time is the charm, but i would like to see more than just two games, i dont think he warranted a top 10 selection based on the above, he's worth a grab late in the draft or as an FA, nothing more imo

well, the point is... with Kontiola 1st (-> AHL......KHL?), Hjalmarsson 4th (->KHL) and Lombardi 9th (->SWI) all looking like misfires, it's hard to think Lindstrom shouldn't have been in that top 10, despite the question marks he brings.

I probably would've picked Sekac had I kept that #1 pick. He was getting some huge buzz from training camp.

I'm happy getting Bellemare where I got him. Solid start for him and he's going to get more ice time while Lecavalier is out.

Obviously unhappy with Hjalmarsson going back to Sweden. Knew he was a boom or bust pick at the time, and looking back I obviously should've gone with a safer option. I am happy with guys I was able to bring in later in Everberg and Haggerty though.
