That was bad.

The poor basketball player from last years march madness was so much more graphic though I thought. Still trrrible...

Also.

Phaneuf would be such a better player if he lost about 10-15 pounds. I mean he isn't going to stop taking those stupid long shifts any time soon. Doesnt really play the body as much any more either. I mean shit, phaneuf used to killlllll ppl in the neutral zone.

Man, Boston losing Seidenberg sucks. Huge blow! The Bruins have so many injuries its crazy. Bruins defense last night:

Boychuk
McQuaid
Krug
Bartkowski
Warsofski
Trotman

Lol....

Oh and up front:

Caron
Johnson
Fraser
Spooner

Lots of young unknowns getting experience. Tough test of depth for the Bruins.

Pretty much what I expected and happy with the signing. He will be taking up a smaller percentage of the cap next season than he did when CGY signed him to the 6.5M deal. I expect to see salary inflation to continue as the cap rises. Expansion and the increase in outdoor games could increase revenues likely leading to a 90+M salary cap before Phaneuf's deal expires. I think in 3-4 years a top pairing D who is about to be UFA could easily fetch 10M on the open market and although there is risk signing him long term I don't believe he would have considered a 4 year deal and if his play doesn't drop off which I think is reasonable given the years he will be under contract I think this signing could look like good value in years 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Also the amount of hate he gets on twitter is irrational and confusing to me. The guy has played the toughest minutes in the entire league over the last 2 years and is in Carlyle's shitty system where they sit back and get badly out shot game after game. Quoting things like his +- in the playoffs is just stupid IMO and has nothing to do with how valuable he is to the Leafs.

Great Dman and hopefully in 2-3 years he'll be the #10-15th highest paid rather then the #5.

Worth noting that he's not old, and if he was scoring this deal would likely be considered cheap.

i dont like the way he plays the game when I watch him play it. He takes far too many long shifts imo which results in him being out of gas far too often throughout the game.

This is one of the things that happened in last years playoffs at the end there. needs a lot of work on his conditioning and I think if he were to lose like 10 -15 pounds he would be a more effective player.

He's not terrible but there are a lot of dmen who I would prefer to have over him (as a number 1)

You can see that a lot of dmen who eats up big time minutes are either young/studly like DD/weber/EK65 or are heavyweights that are used primarily in a defensive role whom may be well into their late 20-30's. Dion may as well like u said, work on his conditioning dowm the road if hes gonna be of any use to us by the time he is 35 because thats the only way hes worth this new monies

he isn't really a threat in the neutral zone where he once killed guys on a regular basis.

The fear factor is missing from his game.

His offense is overrated too IMO. His shot is big but ridiculously inaccurate.

ill take his lower-risk solid defensive play from this season over a big neutral zone hit every single day of the week. no matter how you slice it he's an offensive weapon with his shot and and when he decides to wheel through the neutral zone he's almost unstoppable - he likes to do it a lot in OT. he creates good chances any time he does.

7 million is a bit high but there really is no alternative. if he wanted to he could've milked the leafs for even more and we would have paid - but he didn't.
