Gus and Schenn have been particular bright spots this season. Gustavsson has corrected most of the things that plagued him last season, and is developing very nicely into a bonafide starter.

Try not to approach it as 4th liner, but rather character player. Many guys come and go, but character guys always impact a team, and are found on winning teams. He blocks shots, he forecheccks hard and is the classic players player. For that reason in a few months hes become a fan favorite, while he won't be missed as much as a star that goes down, its foolish to say he won't impact the team in his absence. Granted many players fill similar roles theres a reason hes a fan favorite so early into this season.

I cant say too much about TO's character guys but I know how valuable Boston's Thornton and Campbell are. Been awhile since we had a 4th line like that. when they are your top PK'ers along with everything else, they do hold a strong value, imo.

I completely agree, they are unheralded by many fans, but you don't win championships or big games without these players.

Defense and work ethic is just as, or more important then goal scoring..

Brown is important to the Leafs, especially when our star players (like Phil) are showing poor body language and NOT working hard.

Anybody who isn't a Leaf fan can't see what Brown brings. Ask any Ducks fan, they'll tell you just how important he is to a team.

I guess Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, John Madden, Travis Moen, Sergri Brylin etc. are useless and have never been key components of a Stanley Cup winning team. And yes, other than maybe some offence, Brown DOES bring what these guys bring. He's a great forechecker, backchecker, PKer and is very good in his own end.

Find me a cup winner that relied only on it's top 6 to win them a cup.

a guy like Maltby would have been replaced with another effective 4th liner.
4th liners are replaceable.

Now i guess you will say the Leafs don't have anyone to replace Brown.. which would only confirm they are in bad shape right now (btw you don't necessarily need to replace a guy with someone else that brings the same kind of game/contribution.. but i guess you will all disagree).

The only one missing the point is you...There is a difference between a "4th liner", and top pk'er, the former is readily available, the latter not so much. There is a reason Draper has been with the Wings his entire career...And it isn't because he's replaceable.

Come on baby. Big prospect return, no money...make it happen. Hickey? I can dream right? gimme some more info. Really though anything greater than a 3rd round pick would be worth it. The guy has had 2 major knee surgeries. one on each knee. He is ufa at seasons end and he is making 3.5. The Bruins are free now with room. Get to keep a healthy and productive Ryder who is also an upcoming UFA. He has something to prove and wants another contract. Caron gets to stay up. Paille can stay. All kinds of interesting things can happen now. And for LA if he is healthy, he can still produce nicely and is very fast and should be productive in that system.

Apparently, the pick is currently a 5th round pick bu can possibly move up depending on the # of games played.
