I actually didn't think Kadri looked good with JvR and Kessel, but he did make good use of the space they created. JvR & Kessel do look great together, lots of known habits that are far from normal plays or easy to read.

What I like about being a Karlsson owner -

NYI better extend Vanek now. If he goes to Minny after this year, they are going to look stupid. Great trade for BUF.

Also, why NYI wouldn't just wait to make this trade? They're scared Vanek will be traded to somewhere else?

1. Every day they wait, they pay less to Vanek this year.
2. Past pending UFAs have not gone for close to this much at the deadline.

The Isles must have been guaranteed that Vanek would re-sign. That or Mike Milbury is back running that team again.

i dont think the isles want to risk someone else picking him up, almost they look like a well oil'ed machine..vanek will only add to that success.

A 1st and a 2nd is a LOT to give up for a UFA that walks away. They have to re-sign Vanek in order for all of this to make sense. If they do, then solid trade.

Hard to find a goal scorer of Vanek's Caliber. I think this is a fair price for a premier talent. Assuming NYI resigns him of course.

I think the point is about asset management and losing a 1st for a pending UFA when he may not re-sign.
