I've never understood why GMs get attached to players.
God forbid we GMs have some players we really like, on our teams.

I mean, fuck man, this is only for FUN after all. Right?
I think only teams like Tampa, Boston, Colorado etc. can afford to have their favourite players on the teams.

Whether you like it or not Kyle, you will have to move Kovy in order to compete in this league. It's the only way your team will get better. Just like Bill had to trade 1st Overall this year at the draft. It is a sacrifice that needs to be made. Once you have a solid competitive team, trade for as many of your favourite players as you want. But it'll never FUN to just be a borderline playoff team.

Of course I'm not implying you should've traded Kovy to Kareem lol I'm not interfering in that argument. But you will need to trade him for value sooner or later.

I like you and all Shiv. But fuck right off if you think my team is in the same situation as Bills. I have plenty of young NHL bodies making up my roster as it is, it's not like I need to acquire more.

Take another look at my team....

Gustafsson, McBain, Sauer, Burmistrov, Bozak, Sobotka, Palmieri, Bernier, Matt Martin, Abdelkader. They all very young with plenty of room to grow potential wise and for the most part they all bring solid priphs, particularly shtoi. Then I have "vets" like Michalek, Brad Stuart, Kipper, Kovalchuk, Vanek, Steen, Halpern. Also have prospects like Klingberg, Scheifele, Sproul, Rhakshani, Marshall, Kundratek, zharkov who should all be solid H2H players in their own rights (minus rhakshani who will be a scorer if anything probably). Why do I need to trade a guy like Kovy again?
First lol, let's not take things personally. You are Kareem have some beef going on that I do not care to be a part of.

Second, I think there are three big divides in BBKL. The first is between the shit teams and borderline playoff teams. The second is between the borderline playoff teams and the mid tier playoff teams. The third is between the mid tier playoff teams and the top tier teams. Getting from where you are to a top tier team is a HUGE jump. I don't think you will ever be able to make without trading Kovy.

The comparison to Dallas was to imply that he was on the rung of shit teams last year. He jumped to the next rung this off season after trading 1st and 2ndoverall similar to the way Mash did the year before.

IMO jumping from the lowest-tier to the second lowest tier is NOTHING compared to the gap between a Mid-tier team to a Top-tier team. And this includes myself. In my power ranking I put myself at 8th for a reason. I will more than likely finish 4th/5th in the East. Boston, NJD, TBL and TOR could easily hand me a 1st round exit. For me to get to that next level, I have a long way to go.

Like it or not you will have to move Kovy if you want to go from a 7th/8th place team to a 4th/5th place team.

This has nothing to do with the Child and I Shiv.

I will take what you are saying personally as well, because my rant, had everything to do with me being sick of hearing people like yourself, telling GM's like me, that we will never win anything or improve at all if we don't trade our Superstar players. How bout you let me be in the league longer than one year before we start declaring that what I am doing isn't working? I've done lots of solid work with this roster since I have taken over (most done in the current offseason) but if you fail to see that, fuck if I care.

Once again, maybe if I didn't have a ton of young h2h players on my team, you would have a point. The thing is my team is full of young h2h producing players whether you want to admit it or not and the average age is like 25 or 26.

There is also the fact that I still am not playing with my goalie of the future, Bernier. Who probably won't see a starting job until after this season, unless quick gets hurt. So that's something that should be taken into consideration as well. But probably wasn't by you.

The fact that I have guys like Kovalchuk, Vanek, Steen, Brad Stuart, the good Michalek and Kipper to go a long with all my young players is huge as well. I think I'll just continue on with my retool here and I will let you continue to flip every player you get your hands on.

If you want my opinion Shiv (which you probably don't), YOU will never win anything significant in here, unless you can get your trading addiction under control. Might want to look into that before you criticize the way other people want to build their teams.

Nobody needs to explain there plan or reasoning in here unless you are up for removal due to terrible moves. Never be pressured to trade away anything. Like was said earlier, it is for fun and having player you like to watch on your team is just awesome. There is a very slight handful of people in here i would listen to and heed advice on how i build my fantasy team. We all have strong opinions which is good for the league but what everyone states as opinion is worth a pile of dogshit in the end because it is just opinion, not fact. Not many issues you can get 2 people to agree on let alone 5 or 6. That is what makes this place fantastic.

You guys need to not take serious the people who have a history of being of strong opinion. I mean if i took Kareem seriously I would probably have quit by now...lol jk ;) But i dont and it is way better that way because once you understand the way someone is it is much easier to either ignore or have fun with them. I have already stated that Shiv and I are MILES apart on 99% of player values given by one another. That makes banter and argument interesting as I usually disagree with most of Shiv's opinions too. Its always entertaining reading different opinions from people who claim to have the answer but really have nothing to back it up. The only one who has the right to say what it takes to be successful in BBKL is Scott, imo. He has the hardware.

But sooner or later you start to pick up on trends in BBKL and the imbalance between the rich and the poor and the over-valueing of prospects, picks and youth. (im not ranting, leave me alone, have your fun Shep :D ) Then you see how much return is available if you can flip successfully due to the hard ons for 25 and unders. IMO, Kap's team is a lower tier top 8 but why should he trade away an amazing asset in a keeper league if he likes him and wants to have that asset for the long haul? I mean i never once in a lifetime thought i would trade Kesler, but when an offer like i got comes knocking, you run to that door...Every GM evaluates differently. That is the league depth, GM skills, player values, plans, etc. Some agree some dont. I respect that.

Good post Kyle.. I agree. Especially the part about me :) hahaha

But seriously, GMs do have the right to evaluate players the way they want to and build their teams by themselves too. I'm guilty of dictating what guys should do too but I've learned(currently still..) to not say anything until a GM asks. And really, what do I care? It's not my team, right? Sometimes GMs evaluations work in your favour.. so go with it.

I feel the need to defend myself, when a GM like Shiv tells me there's no chance I will do anything in here unless I trade Kovy. IMO that is just plain retarded. I suppose all my young roster players will just stop developing, my prospects as well, numerous ones of which are close to the NHL.

There is a reason I try and acquire younger talent for my team. It's not just because I prefer younger players either. There is more to it than that.

Good post btw Kyle.

But as stated in many previous threads if anyone has the right to say how to build a winner its you. You have the hardware and have the top record in our inaugural 2 years.

But when it comes down to it no one should build a team on other peoples opinions. Dont get me wrong there's a select group of guys in this league that I value their opinions but at the end of the day its if I'm happy with the roster I field. When Anton ranked me 15th in the league in his power rankings I thought he was nuts. Did I take it personally? Fuck no, it just gave me more drive to prove him wrong; just like I feel my team is being written off in the NE behind Kyle and Mike by everyone. Again I dont take it personally, it gives me more drive to improve my side and shock everyone when I walk in as a darkhorse and start beating the powerhouses in the league.

As long as you're happy with the direction your team is taking that's all that matters; fuck everyone else. They can run their mouths all they want but come matchup time we'll see where the chips will fall. And if you lose use it as your motivation for next year.

P.S. - This year I'm coming for you Kyle! - #2 (behind Mike) in the NE - book it! ;)

To your criticism about me: I agree 100%. The number of trades I have made recently have gone down drastically for a reason.

To my criticism about your team: There is no way you will ever go from a 7th/8th place team to a 4th/5th place team without trading Kovalchuk. There is just no way. The teams ahead of you are too good and I personally just do not see you becoming a better team than NJD, BOS, TBL, TOR, PIT, MTL, OTT, WSH without trading Kovy. But I would love to see you prove me wrong.

I wouldn't doubt it. Not once did i ever discount how solid your team was and is. I BARELY got by you last year in playoffs. I very well could be the third place team in the NE. i got a few more tricks up my sleeve before the season starts though... ;)
