WHOA, porn is a good use alright!? hahahaha kidding.
all seriousness though this is a very good use of the internet!
Not sure how much of the donations actually go to the cause, and what percentage is taken as "salary" ( I think Chris was looking into this?) but I figured any help is good help and donated 30 dollars for the kit.

When I first heard about the donation part, I was a bit skeptical myself.Mash wroteCOLONbills09 wroteCOLONhis kid alone could of gone viral.Mash wroteCOLONanton wroteCOLONit also doesn't hurt that the dude making the video might have the cutest kid of all time

Awesome of you to post billy.
UVic has been heavy anti-LRA since 2008, this is the first I've heard of the Kony movement.
If you'd like to have an immediate impact, do not hesitate or delay emailing your local MLA and MP. If and when they are hit with 25/50/100 noticed of concerns, they will begin to exert their influence. Harper is an identified policy maker, and we're already influential peace-keepers and humanitarians in the area, but we CAN afford to send more.

Found a UK link on the average *executive* salary, including a ratio of cents per dollar spent on salaries. Interesting how wildly it fluctuates.

Re: Kony 2012
I checked out World Vision -- about 19% of $415M in donations goes towards 'support' functions. Crazy.
Re: Kony 2012
From one of my followers: "35% or lower is what the recommendation is for operating costs. 19% is pretty common." That makes sense. Wonder where I can find the guidelines for that stuff.
Re: Kony 2012
Guys, I'd be wary about donating. My buddy just informed me that the charity organization behind this is listed as a "suspicious charity"..so it may or may not be fraudulent. I guess there's no harm in posting the video as it's a good way to spread awareness..but I'd definitely think twice before donating. And let the people who you are sharing this video with know too..
Basically, it's a good cause. Good way to spread awareness. Just not 100% if the money actually goes straight to the cause. I'm gonna look into it.

Re: Kony 2012
I'd like to bring your attention to the non-profit that is organizing this marketing blitz, Invisible Children.
I went through their financials in the original thread on the front page, and I'd like to share with you my concerns...
Of the $8.9 million they spent in 2011, this is the breakdown:
* $1.7 million in US employee salaries
* $357,000 in Film costs
* $850,000 in Production costs
* $685,000 in Computer equipement
* $244,000 in "professional services" (DC lobbyists)
* $1.07 million in travel expenses
* $400,000 in office rent in San Diego
* $16,000 in Entertainment etc...
Only 2.8 million (31%) made it to their charity program (which is further whittled down by local Ugandan government officials) - what do the children actually get?
Source on page 6 of their own financial report
Their rating on Charity Navigator is because they haven't had their financial books independently audited. ...which is not a surprising given the use of cash noted above.
