good deal for paul overall, but shep is my favourite GM. he takes fuckin chances and isn't a vagina about it
Re: CAR/STL - NASH aint got shit on us
Lol... Heatley is, BY FAR, the best piece in this deal. Hate him or not, he does everything but PK.
Arnotts stats this year are better than Jokinen.
Long-term, yeah Paul wins for sure. He got 3 solid pieces moving forward. But this year, Heatley and Arnott are the two best players in the deal. Russell I had to get an active dman that plays regularly, and he is that.
I don't even know why I wasted my time defending the trade.. anybody with a brain can see that this is a short-term deal that lands me the two best players this year for the playoff run.

I believe naught is the word you're looking for there, I conquered illiteracy and all so I'd know (see Sensfanjosh Appreciation Thread for details)

Re: CAR/STL - NASH aint got shit on us
Agree 100% with Shep, and that's why I did this deal too... Heatley is merely "awful" for his salary, but still trumps over all the pieces I got... Shep is a world class GM, as no matter how many times I reject his sorry-ass offers, he doesn't talk trash, nor post about an opposing GM's personality based on trade talks he has to make the GM feel guilty, or anything to that effect. Will deal with him again.
Re: CAR/STL - NASH aint got shit on us
I still love JUG- Arnooottttt....
Re: CAR/STL - NASH aint got shit on us
As per Paul's request, one more breakdown.
Overall: I don't like the dmen in this deal, JML/Russel is a tricky value read, as is their place moving forward (and related stats). All 4 forwards are nice pieces, roughly balanced with the Dany Heatley potential and name value demanding the inclusion of that 2nd (although IMO it should have been a late 1st), really not a big deal. Aside from Arnott each piece in this deal is at a low, so no one overpaid buying at a high, and I don't believe anyone hedged their bet. This deal seems like the type to me that took a while to work out, unless the whole package was proposed by Shep as it stands, in which case I can see Paul breaking it down and liking the sequence through # of improved pieces. Another good BBKL trade.
JML was putting together a nice season before his concussion, his #, play and overall value has taken a dip since his return. Lack of scoring + weak defensive # (matched by his weak play) means patience from Paul will be needed to see value returned here. Seto continues to be inconsistent, but that means his value has consistent peaks and valley's -> bought at a valley, needs to sell at a peak unless Mr.Kim believe's his play will even out. Jussi is a very nice h2h piece, C listing and push to Wing is poorly timed, unfortunate timing but it added to his value for the first portion of the season (W playing C) to end the year he'll either return to taking draws and have proper value, or stay a W resulting in W listing next year (and adds value for potential to dance back to the dot), VERY nice h2h piece, lock on the CAR 2nd line, too bad Shootouts don't add value. + 50th or later selection. To CAR:
John-Michael Liles
Devin Setoguchi
Jussi Jokinen
2012 2nd round pick (NJD)
Potentially elite winger, multi time all-star and 50G man Dany "hater" Heatley has hit a new low this season in terms of his offensive scoring and his appearance on the ice (ugly). All Shep needs is a few hot weeks and everything will be righted; IMO injuries derailed that top line this season, all getting healthy now and could put up some solid numbers. JUGArnott has found a groove with the Blues - very nice #. Now neither contribute to SHTOI so hopefully Shep is already confident in that category, or doesn't care. Prior to his conky, Kris Russel was fitting nicely in STL, which really isn't saying much as basically everyone not named Stewart has benefited from Hitch's takeover. To STL:
Dany Heatley
Jason Arnott
Kris Russell

Re: CAR/STL - NASH aint got shit on us
Just a quick note, but I may have mis-read. Jokinen is a C in the league, so doesn't have "FOW from a winger" value (again, I might be mis-reading).
And yeah, the deal took a few days to put together I believe. (Might have only been one or two days, but many separate conversations making it seem like it was actually longer.
