Mike wroteCOLONFuck, it doesn't look like Bernier's involved in the Carter -> LAK deal. Bobby Mac just said JJ and a 1st.
Fingers crossed it stays that way. Dont want bernier anywhere near that black hole.

Would rather say tampa or maybe edmonton in the offseason.

JJ is an offensive d-man and as sad as this is, CBJ is an upgrade on LA offensively.

Columbus as a place sucks ass tho

for how long have the leafs needed a #1C? for years now, it's always been the "missing piece," but the excuse as to why we haven't acquired one is "oh, players like that just aren't available very often".

well guess what, in less than a year now we've missed out on mike richards, brad richards, and jeff carter twice.

i'd love to know what the plan is for burke at this point.

With Sundin, we needed a #1W
Now, we have a #1W and need a #1C

I don't think the downfall of this team is a #1 C, I don't even think it's the top need. Size on the wings and goaltending far outweigh the issues down the middle. While not great: Bozak, Grabovski and Connolly have done an admirable job for us this season.

Our top line is by far the teams biggest strength, I'm not sure how strengthening it is a dire need for this team...

doesn't matter if it's not our #1 need at this exact moment. burke is putting together a puzzle here and that is a main piece of it. show me a team that has had any sort of success (lets say made the conference finals) in the last 5 years that doesn't have a true #1 center.

considering "they don't become available very often," in the last 8 months we've had 4 opportunities pass us by...4 opportunities to fill a hole we've been trying to address since sundin left, and we have nothing.

doesn't matter if goaltendings or size on the wing is our biggest need RIGHT NOW, you add pieces as they become available and burke hasn't.

this is the exact argument he used to justify trading 2 1st round picks for kessel, but i guess it doesnt apply anymore.

You don't need to tell me about that...That is my own personal motto, you go after pieces when they become available, not in order of need, but last I checked there are no bonafide #1 centers on the market. However, Rick Nash and Dustin Brown are said to be available, and I'm sure Burke has inquired on both.

Obviously everyone would love a top line center, but the reality is that they just aren't available all that often. As for missed opportunities, Burke went hard after: Mike Richards and Brad Richards, you can't fault him for coming up short, I don't view Carter as a #1, and I think the cost to acquire him was insane.

Burke added: Dion Phaneuf, Phil Kessel, Jake Gardiner and Joffrey Lupul in the past two seasons alone...Furthermore, the deadline hasn't passed, be patient and I'm sure something will get done, provided the asking price fits the Leafs long term blue print.

carter could score 30 goals with his eyes closed before being shipped off to a black hole. he could easily be considered a #1 center in my eyes if you can look past his injury riddled tenure on a horrendous team.

and i would hardly say burke went hard after mike richards. philly came to US asking kulemin + kadri, burke said ill think on it but took too long and they went elsewhere.

Jeff Carter has been traded twice in less than a season, and the demand for him was low. Clearly, other NHL teams have a different view. Jeff Carter is a nice piece to have, he brings alot of elite qualities, but you are sorely mistaken if you think he is a legitimate #1 centerman.

if you're up for looking there's a tweet from dreger saying phi asked for kulemin, kadri for richards. toronto said they'd consider it, but then philly went elsewhere.

if burke was "going hard" after richards, surely this deal gets done considering phi approached us first.

That is a large leap in logic.

so show me your basis for proclaiming that burke "went hard" after richards in the first place
